hello! i'd pay if this this will work!
i am having problems with an Avermedia ULTRATV USB 300 - it won't tune CATV. Everything else works and i have the latest drivers from Avermedia. I am using PAL India setting and it gets the channels, although not the same numbers as what my TV says they are, and i know the cable/connections are clean. the video is all Black and White, distorted, and audio is just fuzz. Very disappointing! but i am hoping Sage will do better - what do you think? downloading now....takes forever here.
jiggy in Nepal ps, taking the coax and plugging into other tuners works great, so i dont think it's the cable or the signal...hmmmmm...i got this unit last trip to usa and when i asked Avermedia USA what was wrong they told me they only help Americans. boy was i insulted.

Since you got the usb 300 in the USA, are you sure it supports PAL?
Also make sure that in sage.properties you have video_format_code=8. You may also have to hardcode the channel frequencies in the registry to make sure that Sagetv tunes the correct channels. |

yes sage, it supports PAL (well, the website and the box say so!). where is that setting? i installed and i got as far as TV card setup. The screen was blank and that was as far as it got. But i suspect my problems do lie in a frequency table somewhere. The avermedia one is way off... thanks, and if this does not work out are there other generic softwares out there that support TV tuners/cards? I just want to watch BBC while i am working, or perhaps Baywatch...

In the SageTV directory, there should *.properties files......
When you setup Sagetv the first time it asks for your country and whether it's PAL... then it takes those selections and records them in the Sage.properties file under country_code and video_format_code respectively. As for tuning read the following thread and its links.... it is useful. http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=2205 |

Lucas, i am getting hung on the Setup Wizard Menu, there is no device listed to select so tuning is a mute point. i had the right propertie setting though. i was excited to see Nepal listed, as it's not on most country lists on the web, for anything! what to do now? all those threads looked interesting but i need a recognized device for any of this to be any fun. sage looks great however!

Looks like that Aver device is not supported.
But from your original post, I though that you got past the capture source page, since you were talking about BW picture and distorted sound. |

You have three options here...
Sage support does not list the USB 300 as a supported device, but hey it's worth a try to tinker a little. 1) Uninstall Sage and delete the Frey Technologies folder (should be under program files). Uninstall the drivers to the USB 300 and download the latest ones from the AverMedia website. Reinstall Sage and see if it sees the capture device. If it does, continue with the set up, if not try plan B... 2) Uninstall everything as noted above. Try one of the drivers from a supported device from AverMedia (1500MCE is one I believe). Install Sage. I doubt this would work since your capture card is a USB device and the drivers are for a PCI card. I've seen weirder things work, I just wouldn't pin my hopes on this one too much though. 3) Try a trial version of another PVR app or one of the free ones to see if you can get any results. I would still uninstall the USB 300 drivers and reinstall them prior to attempting the install of another app. It would be great if you could get Sage to work because it's really a good piece of software, IMHO. Good luck. |
