How do I install Sage Client on two different partitions?
I'm trying to get Client running on two different partitions on the same computer. When I do this, the first one can connect to the server fine. The second one won't let me connect to the server and tells me I need to buy another client to use Client on another machine.
I tried giving the computer the same name on each partition but that didn't work. It still gives the same message that I need to buy another client license. When trying the various things I tried, I did reboot the server each time because I had read on the forums that the server won't accept the same client license from another client until the server is rebooted. Does anyone else have trouble running Sage Client on two partitions on the same machine with the same license? I'm using 2.0.20. |

When you say they are on different partitions, do you actually mean they are different boot instances of Windows? (It sounds like that due to the reference to giving the computer the same name on each partition.) If the error message says it won't accept the _same_ license, then maybe the server has been changed to be more strict about where it will recognize a single license & a second boot instance has some details that make it look like it is a completely different PC?
Or, do you mean it is the same Windows installation & you are simply trying to run a 2nd instance of SageTV from another drive? - Andy

Thanks for your help, Andy.
Yes, that's what I meant. The two separate installs of Sage Client are on different boot instances of Windows XP. I have what I call my "test partition". I use this partition often to test out software or troubleshoot some problem I have on my main partition. The server will accept the license from one partition or the other, but not both without rebooting the server. From what you said, it sounds like you've had Client installed on more than one partition on the same computer. Is that right? Did it work for you? |

Oh -- and by "rebooting the server", I hope you just mean restarting SageTV. I _think_ that is all that's needed in this case. Quote:

I don't think the IP number matters, but I do know the computer name must be exactly the same. If the computer name is different between the two OS'es, then you would have to restart the server after trying to shift to the other client.
I recently ran into that problem myself because the OS on one drive had the computer name lower case, while the other one (although the same name) was in upper case. I don't know of something else might have gotten changed in the last couple of releases of SageTV that may be checking other things, but I don't recall having any problem back with v2.0 between the drives and OS'es on my client then as long as both had the EXACT same computer name (and XP likes to add extra funny stuff if you don't double check and/or change it after the install). Hopefully that's all that's wrong here also. Let us know if that works out or not? |

Thanks very much for your help, Andy and mls.
I tried what you guys suggested among some other things also, but I couldn't get it to work. I sent in a tech support request and will report back here what they say. |
