remote problems (wife is pissed)

So yesterday I installed the upgrade to 2.1 (from 2.0)...no reboot, all was cool. After installing Windoze ciritical updates this morning I rebooted and now the remote is acting funky. (Hauppaug PVR-250 remote)

The up/down channel control is working in the menus, but it will only select the top and bottom menu options (it skips all the others). I didn't test every button, but most aren't working.

I fired up that crappy TV app that comes with hauppaug and the remote works fine in that app. So it appears Sage-related.

Please help before my wife makes me rip it out of the ent ctr

Your irremote.ini got reset during the update to v2.1 would be my guess. (Did you check the option to install support for the remote during installation? I just realized that if it was checked the last time & not checked this time, it might have removed the SageTV sections from irremote.ini.)

Anyway... you can either reinstall SageTV & check the option for that remote, or you can see links 1 (post 3) or 3 (post 15) in my sig lines for ini files you can use.

Once you have it working again, I suggest making a backup copy of the irremote.ini file found in your Windows dir.

yup. irremote.ini file was blown out. all fixed!!!

thank you!!!!

side question..I am going to buy a second tuner (PVR-150) and noticed the new larger remote. It looks like I can get the remote with the card for around $20 more...how is the new remote? is it worth it? or should I keep the existing one and save the $20?

again, thanks for all your help!!

it also comes with a blaster
not sure if this is important or not
but that and the new remote should be worth the 20 dollars
also I believe CompUSA or one of the major chains has them for 70 dollars this week

check the paper

or Sunday ads online

One caution: if you get the 150MCE (w/o a remote), you may run into problems getting the 250's IR receiver to work. Hauppauge is aware of the conflict, so perhaps there will be a driver fix sometime. If you get the 150 (with remote), I _think_ that you should be able to use whichever IR receiver gets recognized... since both cards have receivers, the driver can't latch onto trying to use the one w/o a receiver.

The new remote has more buttons, so if you feel that the old remote is a bit button-challenged, the new one might be nice. You can use it with either IR receiver. I know there are other images around, but I posted one here and here. (They are the same images. I just linked to both since the posts have different ini file versions.) That is just a layout I set up; you can modify the ini file to work however you want it to.

hoody-
even though i've graduated onto another remote, that new 45-button hauppauge remote is a good one, and well worth the $14.99 i paid for it. (from the hauppauge webstore.)

Thanks guys! I picked up the retail PVR-150 last night at CompUSA, it has the 45 button remote (However I was nervous at first cuz the box has a pic of the old remote). $89.99 with a $20 mail-in rebate...such a deal, couldn't pass it up. I will prolly install it this weekend.

next Q: I have no desire to get another Digital STB so I was thinking of splitting the cable feed before the STB and run that to the PVR-150. Most of the recording for me is network shows on channels <100 so I should be cool. Is this the recommended solution? Is there a preference on whether I should use the PVR-250 or 150 for the feed from the STB?

it should not make a difference which one you use with the STB
but what are you currently using for an ir blaster
if you do not have one then use the pvr 150 for the STB since it has an ir blaster
also you might need a signal amplifier if you are going to split the cable line
just see if the picture degrades after the split, becomes grainy and such

Hoody, I have a problem with the hauppauge PVR-350 remote not working after I added a Hauppauge PVR-150. The IR app would display an error at launch. Let me know if your remote(s) work or not after installing the 150.

Mayamaniac: But, isn't your 150 a 150MCE, which has no remote? The problem according to the person at Hauppauge was that the IR software couldn't tell the difference between a 350/250 and a 150, so if it tries to use the 150MCE, it will fail due to the lack of the remote receiver. A 150 that has a remote _should_ be OK, since it wouldn't matter which card the IR software decided to use -- that's the same situation as using multiple 250s. (That's the theory anyway & I realize that reality could be different.)

Yes I'm aware that mine is an MCE model. I'm just curious whether he gets both remotes working.

Yes, I know you are aware of what model you have... but it wasn't stated, so others might not have known that yours is different & wondered why you were having a problem with it. (I did give a heads-up on the 150MCE remote conflict a few posts above, in #5.)
