Plextor PX-TV402U and MPEG4/DivX
I'm really confused...
I'm using the Plextor PX-TV402U, and I've tried just about every setting I can in SageTV to change the format (yes I've tried the MPEG4 & DivX qualities)... but it appears during "live" tv SageTV uses the Plextor in MPEG2 mode... then transcodes the file into what I selected. Now correct me if I'm wrong... but why would I care that SageTV supports a hardware MPEG4 device if it doesn't use the hardware MPEG4??? Certainly the file it's writing onto disk is a .MPG (and neither the Microsoft of DivX software knows how to write an mpeg wrapper for MPEG4 -- they both use AVI for encapsulation)... Anyway, anyone have any ideas??? |

Actually what happens is while recording Sage uses an MPEG-4 in MPG wrapper, it then re-waps it back into a standard form when done.

It records it inside an mpeg2 wrapper so that it can play it live & then unwraps it after the recording is done. If you set the property "mmc/enable_mpeg4_timeshifting=false", then it will record directly to AVI, but you won't be able to play it while it is recording.
You can do a forum search for this device to get more info on that. - Andy
