Serial control of DCT-2244

Hi,

I just set up my HTPC and I want to say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've fixed most of the bugs in my system, but I really need to fix one major bug, which is the tuning of my cable box. I have a General Instruments DCT-2244 (is this the same as the Motorola?) and a USB-UIRT. The UIRT is great, but the tuning accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. I'm trying to explore the serial cable tuning route. I did some searches and I found that a DB9(female) to RJ6 cable is what I need. My questions are:

1. Can I find this cable somewhere? Radio Shack?

2. If not, does anybody have a connection diagram?

3. I assume that I hook it up to the "Low Speed" port on the back of the DCT-2244. How do I train Sage after I connect the wire? For the USB-UIRT, all I had to do was blast it with the STB remote.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes you can do if you want you actually need the HANDSET coil cable which have RJ6 connector I haven't scean an flat one at Radio Shack and you need DB9 and wire it up you self.
The only connection diagram are for RCA box I don't know if that will match what you have.

Hi SHS

I have a DCT 2224, which does not have a serial port (db9) , but does have "high-speed data" "out of band data" what looks like stereo 1/8" jacks .. I have seen a pinout for a tivo serial 1/8" stereo cable, do you know if this is workable?
You're the first person i've seen here to know about these GI boxes. thx for any help you can offer

Cory

What do you mean by this? I'm thinking of this set up w/a Motorola.

If you're will to pay for this and a couple of cheesy RCA audio cables go to the Snapstream web site (aka Beyond TV) and they have packages for bothe RCA type serial cables (RJ6 to DB9) and for the Sonys (DB9 to DB9). They ain't what I'd call reasonable though IMHO.

Hmm, I have a DCT-2244 and it has a standard DB9 serial connector on the back. I use this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/multidcttuner/ and it's perfect. Are you sure your's has the RJ6? I know mine also has a phone jack in it, but I'm not using it.

I ended up using the hauppauge IR to receive remote signals and then used the usb-uirt as a dedicated blaster enclosed by an IR fort. I'm happy with this setup and it's worked real well. I've only had about 2 misrecordings since. Thanks for all the replies.
