Intervideo audio decoders choppy sound via spdif. Help?

I like SageTV so much, I went out and bought a new reciever to use with my Sage server in my study . So I am switching from analog out (was outputting to my TV) to optical (spdif/ac3). I am using windvd 6 for the audio decoder (platinum online purchased version).

My audio is stuttering bad for recorded TV, live tv and DVD play via Sage. However, it is fine when I connect via analog cable (except I only hear center and right channels). Windvd6 itself plays DVDs perfectly in DTS via the optical cable. I did a thorough seach of this board, and tried the radlight filter manager as suggested (multiple times ).

In radlight first potential problem. I have two intervideo audio decoders which look identical to each other. Then in properties, I see iviaudio tab and, under audio channels, 2 speaker mode is selected. Everything else is greyed out (including spdif). I am including a screen cap in this post. Can anyone help? Hpw do I enable spdif output?

Thanks!

I never could figure this one out either with intervideo
have you tried uninstalling both intervideos and reinstalling only WinDVD platinum

PowerDVD does not have this issue
and I know neither does Cineplayer surround
Dscaler 5 is free and has a quality audio decoder
you can easily choose upt to 5.1 and/ or spdif whichever

you can download it from the dscaler forum

Have my HTPC Client's audio connected spdif using Directsound Nvidia for audio renderer (came with sysbrd), intervideo for audio decoder. No stuttering problems.

kny3twalker, thanks! I went back to the powerDVD decoder for now. The problem with powerDVD is that the version I have won't do DTS output for DVDs. So was looking for another decoder. Will give dscaler a try.

mdmint, how did you get the intervideo audio decoder to default to spdif out? I've been googling this and, apparently, getting intervideo to do spdif out by default is a tricky proposition. I found several registry fixes that work sometimes and not others. I have tried them all, no go. I would love to know exactly how you got it work? Thanks!

I built and setup my Client back in April so don't rightly remember. Do recall it was a bit tricky getting spdif working but didn't require any Reg editing and it's worked since then. I'll do some checking and see what I can see. But hmmm, I'm not using the Nvidia for software audio decoding I don't think, my receiver handles whatever direct signal is sent to it and decodes DTS or Dolby appropriately etc. Plus I have Nvidia audio chipset onboard so we may be talking apples and oranges.

Thanks mdmint. Humm, I am using a Gainward Hollywood@Home sound card. That might make a difference. It seems people with nforce mobos are having less trouble with intervideo and spidif out. I might just breakdown and buy the nvidia/sonic decoders. Its a shame to spend even more money since I already own PowerDVD and WinDVD. I am already way over budget on the HTPC thing but its been so much fun .

Just checked, definitely apples and oranges. And I haven't been using Sage for DVD playback and so just tried. My bad, DTS doesn't work. I can select it in DVD menu, Sage OSD shows it's selected, but plays back Dolby 5.1. according to my Denon reciever. Tried selecting Dolby 5.1 in DVD setup thinking maybe picking it up backwards but same. Limitation of the Nvidia Soundstorm audio chipset me thinks. Wait, I'll try outside Sage with HTPC DVD player, duh. Back in a minute.

Intervideo DVD player wouldn't play back DTS, said need to upgrade decoder. (I don't need one, receiver handles it!) But ATI DVD player played DTS audio fine. (Denon LED displays mode) So now you've given ME a problem to figure out too! Sage DVD playback and DTS... not high on my priorities but since ATI DVD player can and Sage DVD player can't I'll work on it!

Lol . Thanks for your efforts mdmint! I am back to the powerdvd audio decoder for now. Seems buying nvidia's decoder will fix my problem so I might have to breakdown and do that *sigh*.
