PVR150 Problems

Is anyone else using the Hauppauge PVR150 cards with Sage in the UK? Anyone else run into problems trying to use the composite input with a STB etc?

Sage will happily work for me when I use the tuner input on my PVR150, but crashes reporting driver issues whenever I try and use the composite input, the Win2k application works fine with both inputs though. I've already raised this with Sage support and have some feedback from them but it would be interesting to know if this is working normally for anyone else.

Cheers,
SidKnee

Unfortunately not so far - I've tried a couple of things that Sage Support have suggested but each time I end up with the same result, and Sage hangs when I try and make use of the composite inputs.

Sage definitely doesn't like my PVR150 though - I rebuilt a PC last night to try the 150 on its own and Sage hangs as soon as I try and use the card, even on the antenna input. Looks like Sage was only happy if my PVR350 was also in place.

I'm not sure if this is a PAL thing as there are lots of PVR150's in use with Sage (but I'm guessing that most/all of them are NTSC).

Fingers crossed that Sage find out what's going on (and soon) as I really need a dual card option and the WAF is going seriously down hill. It's dissapointing as when she first saw Sage with a couple of MVP clients she was really warming to it. Now all I get is grief over "When is it going to be working again!"

Ah well - fingers crossed

I'm assuming that the pvr150 pal version isn't supported properly yet in the latest sagetv.
I've had similar problems this evening on my system. I reinstalled sage and selected UK and pal from the options and it locks up with an error message stating that I need to check my drivers are the latest ones. I checked that the properties file contained the correct stuff - ie. country code, country, video_format=8 but it always freezes on the 8 setting.

However, if I choose USA and ntsc, it will play video, albeit in a very blocky, jerky fashion.

I'm using the composite port in the pvr150, I don't really want to use the antenna, so as yet, I haven't tried it.

Do you mean that selecting USA and NTSC gets the composite port working for you? I must admit that I didn't think of trying this and kept running around in circles trying to figure out why any PAL input didn't work.

I've sent a couple of reminders into the support team just to let them know that I haven't forgotten about them [ ] but so far no news on how to get the 150 working properly.

Cheers,
SidKnee

Yeah, it does work, but its a really bad jerky picture because its expecting the transmission to be in NTSC.

You need to also make certain that the video_format=1 instead of 8 as 8 just crashes Sagetv

Well, until they do, I've put the 150 back in the box.

I've put a 250 into the machine now, which seems to work great alongside my 350.

Are you using both of your cards through the composite ports, or a mixture of connections? Have you tried using one off the antenna port and the other off the composite?

I was thinking of getting a 250 as a stopgap until the 150 was properly supported, but wasn't sure if I'd run into PAL issues with this and the 350 in the same machine. If yours are working fine I might go ahead with this

Cheers,
SidKnee

I'm not actually using the 350 for recording, I've set up the machine to capture using the 250 and play back through the 350's tv out. So far, its a lot more stable than when I had the 350 encode and decode everything. The only problem that I've had with it so far is the end of file bug.

I'm using the S-Video socket on the 250 to receive the video in.

When the 150 becomes stable, I'll add that in as an extra tuner (if it works happily with the other cards)

SidKnee - I am having the exact same problems as you describe. The card works nicely with WinTV, but I always get the same error message.
I sure hope they sort this PAL problem out as I bought the 150 as a bundle from Sage...

I didn't know that Sage sold PAL cards (just assumed that all of their cards were NTSC). If I'd know that I may have bought some from them - they don't advertise this very well

Have you reported the problem to Sage Support? The more of us that report it the more likely we are of having it fixed.

Cheers,
SidKnee

well they don't sell PAL cards, but since I use a SAT I only use the S-Video or composite connectors and don't really need the tuner.
Prior to my purchase I was in touch with Sage support and they told me I should not have any problem with this card working in PAL using the composit/S-Video connector....

I just find it strange that they sell this bundle without sorting out these issues... I sure hope they will solve it very soon - or I just wasted $70 on software I can't really use....

Now I see what you mean. Ah well make sure that you keep up the pressure with the support team and I'm sure that they'll get onto it (especially as you bought the card from them).

Fingers crossed!

A quick update:
Frey tech support wanted to know my card number and revision number so that they can communicate with Haup. to try and resolve this problem.

Contacted Sage as I am having exactly the same problems with PAL PVR 150 and they are saying that they are sending the details of the problem to Hauppauge... Driver Issue? What I can't understand is Beyond TV works perfectly with my 150 on composite and S-Video inputs. Tried the new Sage beta 2.2.3 and still no joy. Even tried a clean install... Anyone got this working? Error details and Card info below.
Error message
There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:
