Does the account you created for the service have access to the UNC drives? Can you login as this "user" and access the UNCs?

What happens if you don't run in service mode and try to add the UNCs?

Sage Roulette

Why is the "delete" routine in Sage so "care-free". This isn't new to 2.1 either. There should be some default flag or something where: If not a explicit delete, then prompt before delete. And for sure, whenever starting up, there should be no deletes unless prompted to proceed (regardless of flag). This happens waaaaaay to often. So why can't this product be more robust? It's one thing to have a bug, it's another to be downright careless about us/our time.

they need to have a remap feature for in case file get displaced or moved

thats what musicmatch does
it does not just drop all your songs cause you move them
it has a remap feature and if you try to playback a file it asks for the remap first

this sounds like a great idea
either that or they need to open studio or the wiz bin itself
so we can access the info in it

it is not right to hide information for us
about what we watch and view on our PCs

undelete Please!

Even for manual deletes, it would be great if there was a undo. I've deleted the wrong show a few times and it's a big hassle to depend on external undelete and backup solutions for a routine issue. It would be simple to implement an undo/que and the files on the harddrive could have their filename appended with a "deleted" &/or change the attrib to hidden. An undelete que depth of just 1 would be fine, and allowing the user to configure the depth for those with plenty of disk space and fumbling fingers.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. I am currently using SageTV v2.1.10 (Cayars14.stv) and I have a UNC drive for my video import library working just fine.
Also, I have been bitten by the "SageTV deleted my files" bug before (SageTV 2.0), too. So I immediately downloaded and recovered the deleted files with a free tool called HandyRecovery (http://www.handyrecovery.com/).
Lastly, when I had a recent (v2.1) mpg file corruption that caused Sage to hang at "priming the seeker" (I believe), in a flash of foresight, I flagged ALL FILES "READ ONLY (R/O)," and proceeded to restore a prior wiz.bin, reinstall Sage, etc, before discovering the corrupted mpg video. Sure enough, in my troubleshooting, all my recordings ended up in the 'imported video library." I then watched one of those r/o videos, then removed the r/o flag to see if Sage was going to autodelete it. It didn't (good). Now I just have about 10 hours of imported video to watch--but it sure beats having Sage delete them all! Hope some of that helps.

Nielm,

I got it working... Yipeeh!!! Turns out that the problem is this. I had permissions on the share for the remote user and password. The share was located at the root, but I didn't give permissions on the root drive itself. Once I also shared out the root drive itself, everything started working. All my paths that I had entered worked, my DVD's showed up, my video clips, music, the whole nine yards. I supposed that this should be marked up as user error.

Sorry for the run-around. I am very happy, perhaps even giddy at the thought of having sage run correctly as a service.

Thanks again for helping me out and staying with me, I would have given up without your replies to my posts.

Thanks, Bjorn

SpaceFuzz,

Thanks for the great info. I will checkout your recommendation for the tool. I did finally get it to work. I want to think it is a bug, since the share I pointed it to had permissions but the root drive didn't, but I will probably chalk it up to user - error. How embarassing, I work in IT - Oracle Databases on Sun though, not Windows based stuff.

Thanks for taking the time and writing, your experiences and your post sure will be helpful. Now if there were only a noce way to bring in an old video recorded by Sage and have it show up in the Sage TV Recordings area.

Thanks again, thanks to all,
Bjorn

Teedblu,

Sorry for the misspelling!!!

I am with you, a product should never just delete files. What if you typoed and put in your Quicken dir, will it delete them as well ?? A program should never delete on startup or assume files not in its catalogue are bad...must delete!! Worst case it should leave them alone or perhaps add them to the library.

Dear Sage,
People are running into this and some are frustrated (as I) because disk space is sometimes scarce and when someone new sets up Sage for the first time may not make the best long term setup choices. As we buy new drives and or in an effort to stay organized, we move things around. In this cleanup process, I myself, and obvious others get their files removed by Sage. There was probably a decision and reason for this practice, but I believe that everyone would be OK if Sage at the least did nothing and ignored files or probably preferably listed them in the import folder. If they truly were files that should have been deleted, they can be removed via File Explorer.

It would be awesome if this could be addressed in the next point release, but then I may be asking for Scope Creep by adding new requirements in a process already underway.

Thanks guys at Sage, Love your product.. PS. Add a web server.. please !!

An update regarding files being deleted when you move them between directories... at least it is now reproducible, so perhaps a fix will be found. It looks like non-favs get deleted after being moved if IR is off and if seeker/clear_partials_and_unwanted_when_ir_off=true. I recommend setting that property to false & have just added it to the warning for the FAQ entry on this subject. (No wonder I couldn't get this to occur before: I've always got that property set to false for safety after having been burned in the past!)

I still haven't had any moved files placed into the import lib, so I'm not sure if there is a property setting to prevent that.
