Radeon 9700 Pro & VMR9

Once I upgrade my main computer next month I will have a Radeon 9700 pro which I can install into my HTPC. I was just wondering if a 9700 pro is good enough to do VMR9. I know it does not work very well on the 9200 currently in my HTPC. Also, I believe that the 9700 pro can use the ATI hdtv dongle, but I'm not sure. Does anybody have any first hand experience with a 9700 pro in their HTPC?

Yah. You need a faster CPU though. My AXP-M 2500 can barely keep up with FFDshow VPP.

Caveat all of this by do you need to do postprocessing for HDTV?

I have an Athlon 2500XP which which I will probably put in there as well. I currently have it in my main machine overclocked to 3000+. I am not sure I want to overclock it in my HTPC because it would be in an Antec Overture, and it is pretty hot in there already with a not overclocked 2400 and Radeon 9200. I don't have an HDTV, and by the time I do I'll have an Athlon 64 in my HTPC.

Yeah, you should be good. You should have plenty of CPU and GPU to VPP SDTV.

I have a Athlon 2500 with a 9700 pro in my client computer and I drive the thing in 1280x720 through the DVI port.

I don't think I'm running with VMR9 right now but I'm sure I tried it and I didn't have troubles with it.

[edit] I forgot to mention: I'm not using ffdshow [/edit]
