Sage Client connection
On every version from 2.1 beta 6 thru 2.1 final the client refuses to connect to my server immediately after install. I have to reboot both the client and server over and over until I finally get a good connection. After that no problems at all. I just formatted and reinstalled everything on the client system and once again the client will not connect. The server is running 2.1 final in service mode, I have already opened the firewalls on both systems and right now they are turned off just in case. Unfortunately I can't reboot the server for another 45 min. because it is recording but it seems to take a bit of luck as well as reboots each time.

When setting up a new client, the initial first connection will normally fail. At that point, close the client and shut down the client computer. Go back to the server machine, close SageTV and then restart it (you should not need to reboot the server). Then go back and fire up the client machine and the client software should then be able to connect.
This strange behaviuor has something to do with how the server updates/stores the client license and all the v2.x versions act this way (v1.4 may have also, but I don't remember for sure). |

That did it Thanks. I guess on the previous tries, between the server firewall, the client firewall, upgrading the server, and upgrading the client I never could figure out just what the problem was.

Ya, upgrading everything along with the firewall settings can be a bit confusing to figure out. Glad you got it working.
Although I have noticed a few clitches with CC occacisonally, those seem to be problems in the actual TV signal. Otherwise, the CC options works very well for me. In fact, even though Frey lists the CC feature as experimental and unsupported, it seems to be the only thing in v2.1 that actually does work really well. To me, everything else in v2.1 seems to be highly experimental (and possibly not well supported also). |
