Hauppauge IR Remote and USBIRT
Can I use the Hauppage IR remote to control all the PVR functions (record, change channel, etc..) and have the USBUIRT transmit these functions to my STB? Or can I only use the USBUIRT to do both?
I would have to program all my keys from my non-standard STB into Sage so that it could control the STB with the USBUIRT. |

By controling the STB you mean switching channels I take it.
I was in a similar situation. Once you have USBUIRT you can do the following: Connect USB-UIRT and load its drivers. Disconnect the Hauppauge IR Receiver from the Hauppauge card. Go to SageTV Detailed Setup/Commands. Select USB-UIRT as the receiver. Program/Link Sage TV Commands to each of the buttons on the Hauppage Remote or any other remote you wish to use for that matter. As far as the STB goes, when you define you capture source, SAgeTV will ask what type of STB it is, select something new, give it a name, it will then ask you to press the 0-9 keys on your STB remote and thats all. Note while teaching Sage the STB Remote 0-9 keys you have to hold the STB remote very close (approx 6 inches) to the USBUIRT. That's the general idea. |

Indeed, one can use the hauppage IR receiver and USB-UIRT just for STB control.
That's how I had it initially..... Then I had the issue of controlling sage when out of focus... By using the USB-UIRT as the IR receiver as well there was such issue. Plus its one less thing hanging out the back of the box and one less bit of software to worry about. And one can teach Sage 2-3-4 remote controls. I have 3 programmed. |

You can also use the Hauppauge remote to control SageTV even when it isn't in focus.
![]() Plus, you can use it to control other programs. If you use the USB-UIRT as your receiver, you have to use Girder if you wish to control other programs. - Andy

Thank you all for your wealth of information. Deciding to go with the PVR-250 and not the MCE version. Now just to decide on the video out card.
