Which video out card with 62" DLP

I will be using a Toshiba 62" DLP to connect with Sage and a 250MCE card. After reading through many posts I am still unsure which TV out card to go with. I would like to use a card that would have DVI-I to YPbPr for the best picture quality. Should I be looking at a FX5700? or ATI 9600 pro?

Video quality from the posts seem that the 9600 pro is the better card to go with. I'm not as concerned about windows desktop. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That TV should have DVI on it, I'd go strait DVI-D to DVI-D. A Geforce 6600 or may be Geforce 5900XT should do the job nicely.

If you have a DVI connection on your Toshiba I would definately use it. I've got a Samsung DLP and everything PC is far better thru DVI than any of the other inputs.

TV actually has HMDI input, not DVI. I would need a DVI to HDMI cable. However there were reports of ghosting when using this setup, that is why I mentioned going from DVI on vid card to component into TV.

HDMI ... good question. Most must run a DVI Detective to use DVI on the TVs. It spoofs a LCD paned (EDID info) so that the GPU will enable the DVI port. Since you have an HDTV you want a fast card for post processing (unless you like uh -- crappy, output). I'm eyeing the 6800, it's fast, about $250 (not too much for the hobby) and passive cooled. I think Kny has that card. I'm using a 9700 Pro and it's barely up to it

Not true, or not necessarilly at least. DVI Detective is only used if you have a TV that provides an incorrect EDID, AND, you can't force resolutions via the video card. Basically, you shouldn't need it.

I believe kny got a PNY, I have a fanless 6800 (Gigabyte) and it's working great via VGA breakout.

I just saw that the other day. How much heat did that add to your case? It seems like a great solution as long as it doesn't turn your case into an oven.

Also related to this I suppose, is which case are you using? I have an overture and it's running at about 36C right now with a Gforce440MX, and I've been itching to upgrade for some time now, but I'm afraid a passively cooled 6800 would kill things.

Since when can you force the interface? I know there has been talk, re ATI and NVidia, but as of this summer it was a no go (thereby requiring the DVI Det.) Most RPCRTHDTVs don't produce or produce an incorrect EDID (incorrect is a null). Ah, well, I'm glad you like your 6800

I think saying most is a strech, I've seen no data on how many have incorrect EDIDs. I know from casual observation that quite a few people use DVI happily, like vpopovic on his Samy. There are a problematic displays, the Sony HS-20 comes to mind, though too.

Granted it's been the better part of 9 months since I've cared to check at AVSForum, but it appeared to be common, in the CRT-based RPHDTVs. Now, DLP, Plasma, LCD, CRT Grand Wega's were a different story at the time.

I know there are some gotcha's with the ATI dongle (480p max for DVD unless you use a SW bypass that eludes me right now.) It worked fine for me otherwise. Those new NVidia cards are very tempting....

Enough Video card for DLP 50"

Well I'm finally breaking down and purchasing an HDTV. Nothing like No Interest no payments to help me along the way. I currently have a fx5200 video card in my HTPC, but I'm thinking with the new TV I will need a little more, is that correct? Least of all I'm certain that I would like a DVI connector on my video card which my FX5200 is lacking. If so is it overkill to look at the 6800? Also what ATI card is similar to that with a DVI out? I currently have an AMD 2100 in my HTPC. I woudl like to use ffdshow to uprez to the HDTV.

Thanks

6800 series is the same X800 series
one step down
6600 is the same as X700 series
then last years cards like 9800 XT and 5950 Ultra
come in after the base model 6600 but before the 6600GT and X700 XT and X700 PRO

all have DVI
and all ATI have component
the 6600s and 5950 Ultra have component

I'd go with a 6600 right now, the AGP versions seem to be available now, at least that's what the buz is.

Yup, seen the XFX version for sale at Buy.com and gameve:

http://gameve.com/gve/Store/ProductD...sku=VC-XFX-035

Although the picture at gameve doesn't look like the AGP card.
