upgrade to 2.1, immediate java.lang error
Hi,
I just downloaded and installed the upgrade to 2.1. I did not have Sage run as a service. When I try to open the application, I get this error: Could not find JAR file. An exception occurred in Java: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: sage/Sage What should I do? It seems that for most people, the way they solve various problems is to completely uninstall and reinstall SageTV, which I'd really like to avoid. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Just remove it using add/remove programs and then run the installer again. It won't touch your configuration files at all.

You are a genius. Thanks.
One thing -- why doesn't removing the program touch any of the config files? I can see that in my case that's a feature, but for the most part when I want to remove a program I expect it to all go bye-bye. Why not SageTV? |

Very few programs actually completely delete all of themselves. If you look in the Programs folder after you uninstall various software you will often find it leaves a folder with some part of it behind.
The reason is so that you do not loose all the settings you may have made when using that program in the past. That way, should you decide to install it again you wouldn't need to alter of the settings again to your likeing. Likewise, this keeps your previous settings for certain programs that may need to be uninstalled before installing a newer version. There are 2 problems with this idea though. The first, of course, is when you uninstall something the remainder waste drive space (unless you delete them yourself). The other problem is that with some things if you upgrade to a newer version and then decide you don't like it, when you unistall the newer one and try to install a previous version the altered settings from the newer one may not work with the older one (or worse, cause it to crash). Anyway, that's pretty much how most things have worked all versions of Windows thru the years, so it's nothing new or different that Frey is doing with SageTV. |
