ok you either need to check the back of the DirecTV box for a serial port or low speed data port
you can check the manual as well
or you can buy a IR blaster to control the DirecTV STB(box)
if you do have a serial or low speed data port use that
you can connect the serial or low speed data cable directly to your computer and SageTV has native support for controlling the box
for an IR blaster look into the USB UIRT

but serial/low speed data is much faster and more accurate
I use it

Than you will need a svideo cable and a red and white composite cables
connect them from the DirecTV box to the pvr card
if your is a retail pvr 250
you will need a headphone/miniplug y adapter to composite right/red and left/white
then just set up a new source

and you will need a DirecTV box for every tuner card you plan to use

the 5200 is fine. Use Defaults & Std Decoders first!

The 5200 video board is good for a PVR system utilizing the TV Out for Standard Def TV. Better than ATI (IMHO, and after some attempts to use ATI boards).

Just don't try any hardware acceration though (DXVA sp?).
For a dedicated PVR, what the heck do you need a video board to help out a highpowered CPU for anyway? Let the CPU earn its keep for gods sake!

Also: You also don't need anything but the Default Settings! (Overlay etc..) All this playing around with different Decoders is fine, AFTER you get the basic defaults working.

There does seem to be some "issues" in the 2.1.10 install -- several folks have had to do a "double install". That should get fixed (when...?). I'm sticking with 2.0 til the dust settles.

have you changed anything since installing the decoders
I gave you a link for?

can you download radlight filter manager and check out what the merit is of all decoders you have installed

it will be under the direct show filters

and it be named like intervideo video decoder or nvidia video decoder

find the nvidia ones, audio and video and make sure the video one has the highest merit and the audio does not
and the same for intervideo but in reverse
high audio, and lower video
and then make sure all others are lower but only mpeg2 decoders
nothing else

have you installed the newest java, directx 9.0 b or c, new video card drivers, sound drivers etc....

and what is the exact error you are getting?

are you closing sageTV and disabling the service between reboots
if not you need to

can you post both of your properties files

Uhhh I don't know, but I suggest trying 2.0 -- not 2.1
http://sage.tv/preDL.php?tmpFile=Sag..._0_20Setup.exe

I don't know if trial will reset with the different version, but that's not the reason: The reason is: There's not a big difference, and it's not a "new" release .

I understand that 2.1's wiz.bin file cannot be saved and dropped back into 2.0. So you'll need to do a clean install. (keep a copy for . . . . can't think of a good reason.... but just in case anyway.)

U need to restore your last partition image backup of the system partition
.
If you don't have one (hold out your hand -- and whack yourself in the head several times!!!) then you'll have to reformat / reinstall everything. That's usually the case with trials -- something is buried in the boot track or something.

Before doing that, see if tech support can do something.

Frankly, I'd just buy it and download 2.0 (per the path I listed above) It works! and they'll get 2.1 smoothed out soon and then you can upgrade for free.
