Hauppauge Control malfunctioning

Out of the blue my Hauppauge (and another) control no longer control SageTV. Some buttons bring up some strange display I have never seen. It is a small grey display which has SageTV and a couple of other items on it. There seems to be no way to get rid of it.

The system has worked for many months. I have re-started the computer and un-installed and re-installed SageTV, but nothing helps. The computer keyboard still works fine.

I don't know what to do next. Any ideas out there?

Thanks,

Have you tried to re-install the Hauppauge IR software and then re-install sage on top with the "modify/fix" option?

Thanks for your response. As soon as my wife gets off the TV I will try it. Although right now I don't know how to re-install the IR software. Maybe it will become obvious once I am infront of the computer.

Do you mean the Hauppauge remote is no longer working to control SageTV? If so...

Have you recently reinstalled the Hauppauge drivers for the remote? That might have cleared out the [SageTV] section of irremote.ini in your Windows directory.

Do you have irremote.ini in your Windows directory? If so, does it have a line with "[SageTV] on it close to the end of the file?

Did you reinstall SageTV? If so, did you check the box to install support for using the Hauppauge remote to control SageTV?

That 'grey' display that shows up... does that appear when you press the "Menu" button on the remote? Does it look anything like the display you get when you press & hold Alt+Tab?

If none of the above applies, I think you'll need to provide more details.

Edit: I didn't realize the question was posted twice & I replied to your other posting. The 2 threads have been merged into this one.

No, I have not.

>>Do you have irremote.ini in your Windows directory? If so, does it have a line with "[SageTV] on it close to the end of the file?<<

The file is there, but a search turned up no SageTV. A search on just sage brought up a couple of messages, but no SageTV. What inserts that line into that file?

>>Did you reinstall SageTV? If so, did you check the box to install support for using the Hauppauge remote to control SageTV?<<

I didn't the first time, but I un-installed and re-installed and checked that Option.

>>That 'grey' display that shows up... does that appear when you press the "Menu" button on the remote? Does it look anything like the display you get when you press & hold Alt+Tab?<<

Yes to both.

Sorry about that - I didn't realize it.

Thanks for your help.

Checking the option during the SageTV install will insert the [SageTV] section & thus its commands. You don't have to reinstall SageTV to do this however: the 3rd post of link #1 (Basics) contains a basic ini file that includes the commands needed to control SageTV. Link #3 has options you can use if you wish to control SageTV w/o it having to be in focus (or, the active program).

If you just did that after starting this thread, then you should be set. If not, see above. Note that if you reinstall & don't check that option, you could lose that part of the ini file. I suggest keeping a backup copy of the ini file in case you ever need it.

Yes to both.
That's what I thought & it fits perfectly with the situation of not having SageTV commands in the ini -- by default, the "Menu" button will bring up the task list & you can then use the remote to arrow over to a program you wish to switch to, then press "OK" to switch to that app.

I downloaded and installed this file and all is well.

Thank you so much.

Good night.
