Get not get Local Conditions to work
Salbst,
Can you help me? I'm having trouble get the Local Conditions to work. I use the cayars stv. When I select the wrs it loads everything and shows the Current Local Conditions for Franklin at the top, but the data it shows says only Untitled. The National conditions view works fine. If I run the test program testy it gives me InvocationTargetExceptions when it tries to get the data for the locations. Please take a look at the attached images. |

Please pm or post your weatherconfig.xml file, and I'll take a look.

Oh... I didn't realize Franklinville was a built-in location. Did you download and install the "Java Runtime Environment Library Extensions" and "SageTV additions" listed here: http://www.sage-community.org/index....herReportSuite ?

Thanks Salsbst.
Now It works. Looks like WRS as part of the Cayars release 17 distribution does not work out of the box as advertised. I'll have a look at what is different and will post him a message. |

WRS Install Help!
Hello all, a newbie here. Anyway, I have Sage 2.1 set and was attempting with no luck to get the WRS module add-on installed. Briefly, here is what I have done:
- installed the JRE Lib Extensions to my C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_03\lib\ext directory - backed up entire C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV directory (just in case) - installed the SageTV additions - unzipped the weather-report-suite-sagetv.zip to my C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV directory, ensuring nothing was overwritten (didn't overwrite the C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\STVs directory, but added the C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\STVs\OringalV2\weather_report_suite_import.stv to the existing directory) - using the General Installation Instructions, attempted to import the module at Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced -> Import SageTV Module (.STV) -> Select However, this last step seems to not work. When I select Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced -> Import SageTV Module (.STV) -> Select, it pops up the file list window, and shows weather_report_suite_import.stv in the list. I click on this file, and after about a second, it kicks me out to the Main Menu. That's it, nothing appears to have happened. I have tried restarting SageTV, but still there appears to be nothing different. It's like the selection of the weather_report_suite_import.stv didn't take. Is there a trick to selecting this? Is there another way to tell it to use it? One last thing, I did the the following command prompt test and it produced the following output: C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV>java -cp . com.stusals.wrs.Testy view is ready: false com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view NY/area com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view NY/metro com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view Pittsburgh/area com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view Pittsburgh/metro com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view forecastUsTemp com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view usPredominantWeather com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view usSatellite24 com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view DC/metro com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view DC/area com.stusals.rotan.View: updated data for view usPrecip com.stusals.wrs.Location: updated data for NY com.stusals.wrs.Location: updated data for Pittsburgh com.stusals.wrs.Location: updated data for DC day Wednesday icon C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\weather.com icons\39.png text PM Showers low 32 high 59 Pausing downloads C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV> So, this shows the core java portion seems to work, just doesn't seem to be linked to my SageTV GUI menu. Notice the first line, it says "view is ready: false". Seems like this might be an issue. Oh, and yes, I have not edited the weatherconfig.xml yet for my city, but I figured first I would get it up and running and then modify it for my specifc local. Finally, does this procedure need to be done at the SageTV client too (I have SageTV client running on my laptop and also I am experimenting with Sage TV client for my Media MVP - BTW this works slick and is WAY COOL!). Thanks for any assistance or insight into my problem. |

it has probably installed itself, but there is no way of entering the screen... You will need to install the dynamic main menu plugin to be able to add a WRS menu item...

got it (mostly)
Nielm,
Thanks for the quick reply. Yup, I need to add the dynmaic menu module. Once I did that, I was able to add the WRS module by doing a Add New Menu Item -> Internal Screen - 104:Weather Report Suite - salsbst. Anyway, I was able to add a menu item for WRS which opens in the default weather view for DC (default weatherconfig.xml has DC, Pittsburg, and New York - need to now edit this file for my location). Anyway, it all looks great, and it works out well for me that the dynmaic menu customizations is required, as I love being able to edit the menus easily from withing the Sage gui. So it all worked out for the best. I would only suggest updating the install instructions for the WRS to indicate it requires the dynamic menu module (or if not, instructions on how to edit the menus without dynamic menu module) including instructions on how to add WRS thru dynamic menus (wasn't hard to play with it and find Add internal screen options, but it would be nice if it came out and said it). Thanks again for such great customizations! Tony |

Denver anyone?
Hi all,
Got the WRS module up and going - works great. Anyway, as an attempt at being helpful I'm attaching my weatherconfig.xml setup for Denver, in case anyone would like it. Tony |

Thanks for the intelligent and detailed feedback, foxtony.
I've added a brief note to the community page for WRS ( http://www.sage-community.org/index....herReportSuite ) under the installation instructions. It reads: Note: if you are installing the WRS module directly (as opposed to using it within an STV that includes it), then you will not have a menu item within SageTV to launch it unless you use Nielm's Dynamic Menu. So, if you install WRS using these instructions and you want to actually use it , then install and use the Dynamic Menu to make it a menu item in your STV. |

I just noticed that my Forecast within the WRS doesnt' have any pictures anymore. I think last month I made the comment that it does a better job of recognizing what pictures to put up there than the other weather manager but, after not checking it for some time, none of the pictures are showing up. Can you point me to a directory where the files should be, or maybe where it points to the directory in the weather.xml file? Thanks.

Please post your weaterconfig.xml file so we can take a look. Also please include a link to the website that has the pictures that you expect to see.

I included the screenshots of the pictures I am expecting to see. As far as I know, the forecast part of the WRS is built-in so you would know better than me in terms of where the pictures are supposed to come from.

Ahh.... you mean the icons for the weather conditions. I misunderstood you -- I thought you were talking about a forecast map.
You should have a whole slew of png files in a directory named "c:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\weather.com". If you don't, then that explains it. The files are in the zip file that is listed as "SageTV additions" at http://www.sage-community.org/index....herReportSuite . HTH, Stuart |

I cant get the local weather to work. I put in my zip code and it always says that it failed to load. The other weather section works though...

Must be the so called "storm" that is "ravaging" the Mid Atlantic area of the United States as we speak.
(Here in DC it's not even sticking to the roads and yet the local television would lead you to believe we were going to be seeing a blizzard.) |
