I think I am getting the hang of it, it looks like they are overlaying this gif
http://www.traffic.com/res/metro39/...eTime.0.0.0.gif
On top of this gif.
http://www.traffic.com/res/metro39/BaseMap.0.0.0.gif
Any way to do this in WRS as well?

Seems like this would be very efficient since the map only gets downloaded once...

This one's complicated enough that knowing html and the tricks that authors tend to use comes in handy.

Ok, you're quick on the draw! You seem to be getting the hang of it. Yes, WRS does this well. Check out the xml config's area and metro radar examples -- they demontrate overlaying multiple images.

I'll have to get back to you on the properties that you use to change the behaviors listed above in (1) and (2).
If using the importable WRS, they are configurable in Setup->Detailed Setup->Enhancements->Weather Report Suite Options...

Question Weather Suite/ Weather problems...easy fix...?

I know this is easy for you guys, but In the Weather Suite I can get my local weather and have modified the line required to add my town and zip code. FINE. I notice however that if I change to one of the other cities, and go back to the main/ first weather page, I have 3 options for all the other cities, except mine.

Basically it's 1. current conditions 2. local rain fall 3. local satellite

I dont have the last 2 on my system for my locality.

What file must I modify and what (links, examples please) to get this to work? Could someone cut and paste the section so I know what to lok for and what to change?

Ive done a lot of reading and have gotten CC, comercial skip and such all to work fine, this last one is all thats left for me.

Thanks!

Failed to load WRS Java Class

My Local Weather works, but when I try to launch the Weather Report Suite, I get a error message "failed to load WRS Java class".

Does anyone have any hints what might need to be fixed?

It means that the java helper files for running WRS could not be loaded

Did it ever work for you before?

Have you installed a new Java version recently: if so check all the Runtime library extension .jar files are in the Program Files/java/jre_xxx/lib/ext directory of the new version.

Did you unpack the WRS zip file into the sagetv directory -- so that you have files such as: SageTV/com/stusals/wrs/*.class

Salsbst,

I recently started using Girder with the USB-UIRT and now the WRS is acting a little funny.

Under the built-in SageTV support for the Hauppauge remote everything worked fine.

Since Girder is using SendMessage commands to send Sage instructions, I can no longer see the forecast. That's the one where you cursor right to get the top menu to Forecast, then another right arrow command is supposed to highlight the forecast so you can scroll. Under Girder/SendMessage that does't work. The right arrow just moves the top menu over to Change Location.

Also, another difference is the way the arrows work. Under the built-in Hauppauge IR support, you actually need to press SELECT or wait a couple of seconds for the arrow keys to select the new command, right? Under Girder/SendMessage just moving the arrow down immediately causes the choice to be selected. Same with left/right movement. Maybe that's what's causing the above problem with not seeing the forecast??

My wife and I are going through withdrawl not seeing the forecast --- we've had to (GASP) actually get off our butts and go to weather.com !!!

Stacy

Stacy, thanks for asking. Unfortunately, my time is pretty much taken until after the new year so I can only be of limited help right now.

I use Girder and USB-UIRT and SendMessage myself, and WRS has no problems with that combination on my machines. I'm sorry that it isn't working in your home.

The navigation in WRS is (at least supposed to be) based on a delay. If you go right/left/up/down, you should immediately see that you have selected a new item in the horizontal or vertical space, but WRS is meant to react to your selection after a delay of a second or two. Perhaps seomthing in your Girder config is freezing WRS' ability to detect that you've changed your selection?

I found out what the "problem" is.....

I am using the new Hauppauge 45-button remote. It has separate CH+/CH- , VOL+/VOL- and arrow keys, where the old small remote combines CH+/CH- and UP/DOWN and it also combines VOL+/VOL- and LEFT/RIGHT.

Well, using the new features I mapped LEFT and RIGHT to LEFT and RIGHT in Sage. It appears that WRS is actually looking for something more than that when it comes to the forecast page.

If you simply use RIGHT when the top menu is sitting on FORECAST, it will advance to CHANGE LOCATION. However, if you re-map to use the old remote's VOL+/RIGHT, WRS sees that command and allows scrolling to and in the forecast.

At the moment it's no big deal. I just use the arrows like everyone else. Since I use an amp and digital audio out of the PC, the volume +/- doesn't do anything anyway.

However in the future as more and more people get the better remotes, it might cause a problem as STVs and, perhaps sage itself, use these funtions separately.

Thanks again for WRS.

Stacy

The "PageRight" and "PageLeft" commands are the ones that should allow you to scroll within the 10-day forecast. For me, these are mapped to the FFD and REW buttons on my remote. So FFD and REW browse the forecast 3 days at a time.

Ditto.

I use the Hauppauge 45 button remote, also.

You need to hit FFWD to get into the forcast pane and move. I guess I was lucky, I did it that way even with the old Hauppauge remote, so wasn't any different when I switched.

Unhappy Problem loading Weather ....

Hey salsbst ...

I know I am drawing a blank on something I had resolved in the past, but for some reason when I run WRS, I get a "Failed to load WRS java class". I swear this was working forever!!! I am using Sage Client 2.0.20 with Nielm 1.8 STV.

Any idea what went wrong??

Funny thing, when I run mlbdude’s Weather I also get "Location: Failed to read from weather source". This also used to work??

BTW, Weather does work on my Server with mlbdude2 STV. I don't have WRS installed on the server.

Got me! ... T.

Did you by chance just upgrade your version of JAVA? If so you'll need to re-install the java pieces. Either way it sounds like you should reload these from the zip file.

Using WRS with Java 1.5

Salsbst,

Jeff has recommened installing Java 1.5 to possibly solve the video stuttering problems.

I use WRS all the time. Do you anticipate any problems using java 1.5?

Thanks,

Stacy

You just need to copy the jars installed for WRS (and any other STV features' jars) from the previous JRE's lib/ext directory into the 1.5 JRE's lib/ext directory. If you do that, I wouldn't expect any problems.
