PC changed time, Sage didn't!!
My Dell changed the time for time change, but SageTV didn't and all my recordings (folr homeschool courses) are off one hour. How on earth do I change the time on this system? I have restarted and restarted and looked for every setting possible. What gives? Now I have to order 5 videos for $15 each!

SageTV uses the computers clock, so I'm not sure how you can say the computer changed time, but SageTV didn't. SageTV has a setting to synch the system clock with the SageTV server. Are you saying the clock gets changed by SageTV to the incorrect time? If that isn't the case, I would guess that either the homeschool courses were broadcast at the wrong time or are broadcast from some location that didn't observe daylight savings time, so now the broadcast times have change by an hour since your time changed and theirs might not have.
Edit: This post is wrong in this case because the system clock and SageTV clock are an hour off. See my next post for possible solutions. Last edited by malore; 11-03-2004 at 12:21 PM. |

Yea, I saw something like this on a sat recording I did. My other shows were right on the money. I did a little checking and found the issue was the broadcaster and had nothing to do with Sage/Frey.

I have checked all the above. I can look on the screen and the Windows time shows in the bar on the bottom-right, while the Sage screen shows an hour earlier. I am not synching to the SageTV server, because that should not be necessary for a program to keep time with the computer. Besides, that computer is not connected to the Internet. As for the broadcast time, they are broadcasting at the exact right times. I have watched it and they are right on. If you have read enough posts you know that this is not totally isolated. I found over 20 posts that dealt with this, but no real solutions.

OK, I think I know what the problem you are having now is. From the experiences I had with a distributed computing project that was also written in Java; Java seems to determine whether or not it's currently daylight savings time independently of Windows. The solution I found was sometimes as simple as just making sure that Windows setting to automatically adjust clock for daylight savings time was set. In another case it was necessary to switch the Windows time zone setting to another location that had the same GMT adjustment, but that both Windows and Java agreed were or weren't on DST. What is you Windows time zone currently set on? I can see if I can duplicate your problem, and test to see if my latest suspicion is correct.

Shutdown SageTV and adding the time_zone key with your Time Zone abbreviation.
For Example in mine it is set to this for Eastern Time time_zone=EST This will always keep things in synce. I had this problem before Jeff added the code to set the Java time zone based on the above property. John |

Found the latest "daylight savings time" thread that was semi-relevant, since tonight time rolls back.
Assuming my clock auto-resets correctly (always has so far), how does the guide handle the change? From what I see, 2am occurs "only once" in the guide and has no (titled) 2nd 2am slot. For example, Star Trek TNG is on at 2am and 3am in the guide. Do I select the two episodes and it records them back-to-back? Does it get confused in any way? If I read the DST threads right, GMT is Sage's base time zone and it will probably readjust the TV guide times at (the first) 3am back to 2am (the second). In my example, TNG is recorded twice with no problems. Thought I'd ask, and setting extra recordings to test my theory. Thanks! |

Not sure about recordings, I didn't have any set for the overnight.
I have to work today, so I got up early to make sure all my "stuff" got their clocks changed. 4 ReplayTV's, Sage Server, DVD/Vcr recorder, Vcr (yes I still have one of those), MediaREADY 5000, microwave, phone/answering machine, cell-phone, my watches, clock in the truck, oh yeah and the clocks on the walls. All my ReplayTV's, computers, MediaREADY 5000, and Sage Server had the correctly changed time. The DVD/VCR and VCR also had the right time since they grab the time off the local PBS stations VBI. I set the clocks on my phone/answering machine and cellphone, microwave, wall clocks. I'll set my watches at work today as well as the laptop (which should autoset). I'll set the clock in the truck when I get in to go to work.

Kanati,
That was very old, but if you read the rest of his message you you would have noticed it is for home school. Right or wrong educational institutions can charge hefty prices for copies of programs....Wayne Mised it so he has to pay a hefty price. It is rather rude to call it Drama when it is for educational purposes. John |

I didn't see that the original post was from last year... And no one ever accused me of being the nicest guy in the crowd.
