Lightbulb Recordings list ideas

If anyone wants to use my ideas, I don't really care, go ahead. This is all just my opinion, and if you disagree, reply or ignore. If you want to add or subtract, go ahead.

First, the big list of critera each show has that you can classify them with, with examples for each one (seperated by /'s).
From the guide info:
  • title: The Screen Savers
  • channel: G4TTV/142/G4TechTV
  • category: Computers
  • type: Favorite
  • date: 10/28 / 10 / October
  • time:7:00PM/7:00-8:00 PM/1 hour
Not from the guide info (some of these may be pushing it)
  • watched: no
  • encoder: Hauppage WinTV PVR PCI II
  • quality: DVD Extra Long Play
  • language: English
  • directory: D:/

Now, when you go to filter on the options menu, you're given a list of current filters. You can:
  • select one and disable, enable, or modify it.
  • enable or disable all
  • create new filter

When you create a new one, you select a property (listed in the above list), then are given a list of the ones that are applicable (you have shows that would meet it).
This would mean more work & tweaking, but ideally, you could also choose to see all; for some (like title), this would mean typing one in, using the guide search, or selecting a show from the guide. For others, like quality, a list would work.

Now, once you have a property and one or more items of it selected, you can choose to work with them individually (like subfilters; for example, show, hide, add filters, etc.), or just work with them all: Show, Show Only, Hide, Group Exclusively (this allows you to put the them in a custom group, for example, ch 142 or have to watch, and they won't appear in normal group), and Group Also (put them in custom and default groups).

Once it's made, you can also set priority, for example:
Filter #1: show channel 142
Filter #2: hide Screen Savers
If they're both enabled, any Screen Savers on channel 142 would be shown, as it has a higher priority.

If you have keyboard, you can name it; else it will be given number, or even automatically named based on properties.

Now, when you enable one, it takes effect. Great; I could almost already do that. But, there's more:

At the end of each group (either custom or default) and the main list, there is a Group Operations option. This allows you to perform operations on that whole group, and choose to include or exclude child group shows (in the mian list, choose to include or not each or all groups under it).

Group Operations:
  • Set Watched
  • Set Don't Like
  • Set Favorite
  • Delete
  • Recording Error
  • Move to Library
and STV-specific options, such as:
  • Compress
  • Commercial Detect

These group operations would bring more purpose to the powerful filtering--for example:
Your cable went down Oct. 26. Just set up a filter to show only Oct 26, move it to top priority, enable it; then select Group Operations, and Recording Error.

Am I crazy? Do you agree? What do you think? I'm sure some of this could also be applied to the guide.

Have you tried the MalDude, etc Malore based STVs? They have Guide and recording list filtering almost exactly as you describe.

No I haven't. I really need to buy SageTV client, rather than having to go to TV.

?? I'm not sure what you mean -- you can use custom STV files with SageTV; they are not just for the client.
