DirecTV Serial Control options

With the recent changes to the DirecTV serial control software that allow for support for more and newer receivers, is there a way to specify which command set SageTV is to use?

I am able to (somewhat) control a receiver with an Advanced Program Guide using DIrecTV Serial COntrol, but when I attempt to use the Sgae plugin it does not worrk.

SageTV does not use a plug in for DirecTV
it has native support all you should have to do is plug it in
if you have problems try resetting the box and make sure to leave it on

I guess "plug-in" is the wrong term, though the DirecTVSerialControl.dll file is still installed. However, the native support seems to be for the old command set, which means it does not work with the Advanced Program Guide. I am trying out a TVTranslator from Paterson Technology but not coming up with a Sage-friendly combiination of set-top box firmware, DirecTV Serial control and SageTV serial control.
