Duron min MHZ?

Well I finally got the K6 500 up and runing tonight and big suprise sage tv stutters like no other. I am looking around at the duron systems rite now because they are pretty inexpensive but what I am wondering is how low can I go in the MHZ rating with the duron for a client application.

What Graphics card are you using? Are you using one which offers hardware decoding assistance?

Also how much memory do you have?

I've used a C3 800 mhz with 512 SDRAM and an ATI 7000 and had no problems.

Also which decoaders have you tried?

I thinking of using a celeron 533a in a flex ATX board I have stitting around. So i would like to know how what pit falls you encoutered.

Bathman, just to give you one data point, I set up a system with a 466 Mhz Celeron and a PVR-350. It works OK, but it's not ideal in any situation-

If I use hardware decoding with the UI on then the sysem really bogs down anytime the UI overlay needs to pop up. This makes FF or RR annoying. If I use software decoding it works pretty well (I am currently using 480x480 x 1.6 GB/hr), but there are stutters. If I turn the UI off, everythings works great, but I miss the UI.

I have 160 MB of memory and I running Win98, which probably doesn't help.

Why would you want a Duron? They aren't really any cheaper than Athlon XPs.

I usually can find them with a mb and heatsink on the FS/FT forums for the price of a AXP

You're braver than I then, I don't think I'd touch a MB+CPU combo for under $50, too scary
