Question PVR-350 Suggestion

First off, this is my first post here, and want to thank everyone here. A couple of months ago I set up my PVR, and I couldn't have done it without you. (For those who are interested in hearing the details, I've been posting a blog at BYOPVR (www.byopvr.com) under the same user name. My apologies if this link is inapropriate). For pretty much every problem I've encountered I've been able to find the solution here on these message boards.

Anyway, I've been using the 350 and I have had some of the same troubles that seem to be common. It seems to me that the problems occur because of the difficulty the card has with putting the UI output over video. (OK, this is somewhat obvious, but stick with me). The problems don't occur with the UI off, nor do they occur when you are simply using the UI to navigate the menus.

So, I am wondering if it is possible to create a "light" version of the UI for 350 users. (Ok this is mostly directed to those of you who have Studio). This version would use the TV-out of the 350 for navigating menus, but it would not display any of the user interace on top of the video. (The small live-video in the top corner would also be disabled). You would therefore get a large fraction of the functionality of the UI, and hopefully much more stability.

Do you think this is a good idea? Is this possible, or has it already been done?

I do not believe the 350 problems are due the the UI problems. I have been dealing with the 350 related problems for over a year now. I still have problems with the 350 and I am only using version 1.4 of Sage that has no UI to the 350. While I have seen a lot of improvement in the problems there is still a lot to be done. Based upon what I have seen in the past it appears that the problems appear to be in the Hauppauge 350 drivers. When I do encounter a system crash, the file pointed to is a Hauppauge driver file. There may be some specific problems that may be avoided by a "light" version, in general I do not believe it would be of much value. I think Frey should stop selling (until the driver problems are corrected) the 350 would be of more value. It is probably doing more harm to their reputation than it is worth.

BTW: At the time I tried version 2.0 of Sage the 350 related problems did seem to be compounded. I have not tried 2.0 in a while because I would loose functionality, which I am not yet willing to do.
