UK Law and PVR - Personal Use

So I have a question for anyone out there. I have been trying to find out if the recording of television to a harddrive or even Tape is legeal in the UK, and more importantly can you lead such recording to say your parents / friends?

I have come accross this artical, http://www.museum.tv/archives/etv/C/...pyrightlaw.htm, which if I am reading it right, is saying that in the UK personal use of recordings free, so if I do not boradcast / play in a pubilc place, I can give a copy to friends family, or keep the file for a long as possible.

I have not looked at said artical, but I'm pretty sure that you are spot on with your facts.

Not sure where I know it from?!?

Why, planning on lending some 'videos/DVDs' to your friends?

I'm looking into the matter, as I I have large collection of sage recordings now, and I have been asked on the by people if I can record something for them onto DVD for there personal use. Also with MPEG4 / DIVX ability around the corner, I would have the ability to record programs and then use them on my PocketPC. But I'm trying to find the legal ground.

I can just never remember what the silly law was and how it would be effected by the US digital act.
