Question USB 2.0 Tuner software encoding

Hi,

I'm looking for a software encoding USB 2.0 tuner. I can find plenty of hardware encoding ones but no software ones. Does anyone in here know of one?

Thank you!

ATi makes one. Their TV Wonder USB 2 is a software based encoder.

Hey Mike,

Thank you! I will check it out. I use Sage TV and BTV 3.4 I like both programs and want to use BTV for streaming to my PocketPC (only with software encoding) since I can't do that with Sage. Maybe someday there will be a program that will do it all. Untill then, I'll just use both. Sage is my main PVR, it is much more fluid in it's operation. Changing channels, switching between windowed and full screen is much smoother than BTV on my system. I do like being able to stream TV from home to my PocketPC when I'm on the road, it's cool to watch my local news channels when I'm in another state.

Thanks again!

Rick

Well, I tried the ATI USB 2.0 and couldn't get the drivers to load (on XP Pro) using ATI's install program. There seems to be some issue and a hotfix available (by request only) from Microsoft that is pre SP2, I have SP2 so I think it should be resloved in SP2 but apparently not. The video worked fine but no audio. I tried several times, uninstalling/re-installing same result. Setup never completes and just hangs. Also tried just installing the driver and no other ATI software, drivers seem to install ok but still no sound. I'm just gonna take it back and keep looking....

I believe the original Dazzle series from Pinnacle Systems also used software encoding (or at least that's why I didn't buy one of them, too heavy CPU loading when encoding with software).

Funny how needs change, I wanted hardware encoding for lower CPU usage, then I wanted a software encoding one to stream with. Now, I have 2 PVR-250's and a ADS Tech USB to stream with. The USB tuner runs at about 22% when streaming.
