I got around to trying 2.1.17 RC4 in Win98SE. There was a problem with server and client functions with 2.0.20 under Win98 that I was told would be fixed in 2.1. Well, this new version won't even run in 98 at all. Tosses a java error because of the added (and in my opinion rather useless) new feature for running as a service. Also appears that options is defaulted to run as a service when it should be defaulted not to. Maybe then it might at least try to run under 98.

Can't run the the ServiceControl seperate either to change it. That's what appears to be causing the java error when trying to run SageTV since it wants that done first.

Oh well, as I said in my previous post, better luck next time.

Can someone explain what the "OriginalV2Patch2_1_0.stv" is compared to OriginalV2.stv ?

Also, can someone explain exactly how to make any use of the "Import SageTV Module" feature?

Service is totally awesome because you can now crash the Sage UI (like by playing with ffdshow) without affecting your recordings. Or you can restart it (to find new decoders) w/o affecting recordings. But anyway.

Basically the OV2P is to update 2.0 STVs to 2.1, it works, but not necessarilly fully. As for Import... it does just what it says, allows you to import an STV into the current one (use with caution).

From the SageTV 2.1 manual:
"In addition to being able to specify which SageTV custom interface file (STV) to use, it is also possible to load STV update modules that will add or change functionality of an existing interface file."

So in theory you could use this to apply the OriginalV2Patch2_1_0.stv file to one of the varies custom stv files and gain some of the new features, but since none of them have this feature you can't. So currently the patch is only useful to someone with Studio.

ok another bug
I rebooted the computer this afternoon after closing just the client of the SageTV Server and the recording that had just taken place at 11:00 AM was gone after the computer came back from reboot
and the shows that I had watched between the last time I closed SageTV including service and this reboot were set as if they had not been watched

furthermore
one big issue the setting I change in the detailed setup are always being reset
I saw this bug in the older betas as well
I really hate changing these all the time

and nielm nice to know it is a bug and that the background were just not going to be available anyone fom overlay

OK - I seem to be a bit screwed here now. I installed the RC7 beta, and as other UK users have seen my picture was messed up (poor quality B&W - just like NTSC played through a PAL system).

So I reverted to my backed up Sage TV - unfortunately the picture is still the same.

Anyone got any quick hints? I'd rather not have to wait for another (fixed) RC or production build to be able to use Sage again!

Cheers,
Dan

OK - scratch that.

After 20 years in IT I was still forgetting the all conquering "big red button" - previous version back to normal now, but this beta version does appear not to support PAL (unless I'm being really stupid - again - and missing something obvious).

I thought I would be sleeping by now, but... Does the info in this post & the rest of that thread help?

If you crash SageTV then it doesn't save your changes to the properties file.

True, but when I have the sage.properties file open in my text editor while SageTV is running it asks fairly regularly if I want to reload the file because the contents have changed, so SageTV makes incremental updates.

It saves the .properties file every (IIRC) 5 minutes to update the uptimes, and any changed properties, as well as on exit.

The only reason I can think of is if the sage.properties file is not writeable to the user that is running the sagetv service... Check the file props and verify that they are FullControl to Everyone (or at least to the user running the service)

On mine, this seems to be a glitch with mlbdude's STV. Tried the latest ones from malore and nielm and can switch back (however, think nielm's required closing and restarting SageTV to change back fully).

That service stuff may be causing part of the problem. Don't know since I have no need/want to run Sage as a service.

As for switching back and forth between STV's, I believe nielm's lets me switch directly, malore's will but have to close/restart SageTV. For mlbdude's I have to manually edit the properties file to get out of it.

Not sure why they don't all work the same way for switching.

Tried some of that lates custom STV's with Sage v2.1. MalDude2 v1.1 and malore21-2 had been upgraded for use with v2.1 and do allow switching back and forth. Most of the others, like Mlbdude2 and nielm, had not been changed for use with v2.1 at this point and require manually editing the properties file to get back out of them.

Think this will all get straightend out and they all will eventually work the same at some point after an official release of v2.1
