Stubborn intelligent recording

I have IR enabled, and have about 20 favorites set, including south park first runs and trigger happy tv. IR wants to record almost everything on comedy central, which I guess is fine, but when I tell it I "don't like" Reno911, it stubbornly keeps recording it. Every week I am setting "don't like" and deleting Reno911. So what's the deal?

BTW I'm using the latest nielm.stv, but I saw this same problem with originalv2.stv and mlbdude2.stv.

Yeah, I ended up turning off IR for that reason - it kept recording all this evangelical stuff and the nightly news shows, even though I repeatedly and consistently told it "No, no, no, no, no, no, NO!"

They say it takes a while to get the hang of what you like, but the while that it seemed to be taking was more of a while than I was prepared to give.

My hunch is that it'd be .STV-independent, too, since it's a feature built into the Sage engine.

How could you not like Reno911?

Anyway, there are occaisionally times when IR gets the wrong idea about you, and it can take a little while to train it.

The easiest way for me is to just browse through a weeks worth of scheduled recordings and tell it I don't like things ahead of time. Takes about 10 minutes a week. For me, it's well worth the effort.

Another thing to do is use Malore's Viewing History menu to unset the watched status on anything that you never really meant for SageTV to think about. Keep in mind that if you watch a couple minutes of a show, that goes into the IR, even though the show isn't flagged as 'watched'.

You could also try this property:
Quote:
aggressive_negative_profiling - if enabled, Intelligent Recording will try harder to understand what the user doesn't like
Try setting it to true & it will count your Don't Likes more strongly. I've used Don't Like too much for it to work for me, but you might want to give it a shot.

I do what salsbst says: play 'whack-a-mole" with the upcoming schedule & periodically knock out disliked shows before they are recorded.

good advice

I've been knocking out upcoming recordings of crap I don't like. But I wasn't aware of the aggressive_negative_profiling property, I'll try changing that option tonight. Thanks folks.

OUCH

OK, word of advice, don't mess with aggressive_negative_profiling. Not sure exactly what happened, but I set it true and about half of my recordigns were erased. None of which were set don't like, and all of which were "favorites" Oh well. I am gonna continue to nuke Reno911 or maybe turn off IR.

Ouch! That shouldn't have happened -- it should only affect IR scheduling, not existing recordings. I didn't lose any recordings back when I tried that property, but maybe it has bugs.

I would just go into additional airings for Reno911 & mark them all as Don't Like.

If you do decide to disable IR, I would suggest first setting seeker/clear_partials_and_unwanted_when_ir_off to false so that your non-Manual Recordings & non-Favorites are not auto-deleted when IR is turned off. This behavior will change in the future, but you still need to be aware of it for now.

See, I kinda liked that feature. I used it to go in and clean out stuff in one fell swoop. Of course, I tend to go in and mark as manual or move to the library anything IR'ed that caught my eye so the auto-cleanup doesn't remove it.

I tend to view IR as a bonus. Like when it found out Sci-fi was running BSG and Buck Rogers. How can you *NOT* like IR?!?
