Newbie Sage 2 Client/Server Hardware Questions
I have downloaded the demo and have been familiarizing myself with it before I dump a ton of cash into a complete system. I use directv and want to setup a server with 3 tuners and then have 3 clients.
For the server I was planning on getting 3 PVR350 cards and using serial connections to hook up the directv recievers. I've already got the spare serial pci cards. The part that I am confused with is what the client setup should look like. After reading a few other threads, I was thinking that I didn't need to put any additional cards in the clients and I would be able to just use the SVideo out from the video card. Will I get better quality if I have a tuner in each client as well as the server? If so would it hurt to go with a PVR250 in the clients and instead of the PVR350? I am looking for high quality - not overly concerned about the cost. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks, Doug |

Use 250s for the server, not 350s. The 350s have TV-out which doesn't belong on a server. The 350 has some stabilty problems and should be avoided if possible.
You get nothing from having tuners in the client machines except the expense of SageRecorder and extra network traffic. Put 250s in the server, and use the svideo on the video cards for playback on each machine. For best results, go with nVidia cards b/c they have slightly better tv-out. |

Yep ... don't need PVR cards for clients, just a network connection and the Sage Client software.
Take a look at some of the discussion about the new 150 card as well. http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...ead.php?t=7567 Don't forget to check out some of the custom STV's for some great stuff. http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...splay.php?f=27 T. |
