Because it's failing on a basic DirectX function. There's a simple DirectX call that I use to determine the duration of a file, if that fails then I don't import it. That's where yours is failing.
You've tried deleting your Wiz.bin/bak & Sage.properties files to fix the problem, haven't you? (a bad file entry in the DB could also cause a load to fail) I think I recall you trying that back when this first happened to you....

Rrussell, did you get around to installing 1.3 yet? I'm going nuts trying to get my .mpgs to import and I don't want to be the only one . Misery loves company .

Jeff, do you know why it would be that at one point (when this problem began), 7 of the 8 .mpg files I was trying to import actually imported? I sent you an e-mail concerning that development but I never recieved a reply. It seemed to import 7 of them when I moved the import directory location. I haven't been able to recreate this since and I was wondering if you looked into it. Thanks again for trying to figure this out.

Hi, guys -
I installed 1.3 last night and tried importing my MP3 library (locked it up when I went to the "List by album" button) but haven't checked the MPGs again. (To be honest, I deleted most of them anyway since I've either watched or don't care about them anymore.) I'll check again tonight and see if the one straggler made it in. R |

I looked into the problem, and my conclusion was that you've got some weird anomally in your system that's not related to my software; but is manifesting itself in my software.

Omega - what's your hard/software setup? (mine is a VIA Epia M9000 with a PVR250 and 256M of RAM under WinXP Home, DX9)
Last night I spent time trying to burn SVCDs and found that nero's mpeg2 encoder could not read most of my mpegs as well (even those created under SageTV). Not only is that disappointing from the standpoint of not being able to dump shows to CD, but it indicates that maybe there really IS something wrong with the mpeg files. I will try to reimport some of them tonight (with 1.3) and see what happens. Last edited by rrussell; 06-05-2003 at 06:20 AM. |

My hardware setup is: P4@2.4 512 PC2700 Asus P4PE (using the onboard sound) WD 100GB HD (8MB cache) Radeon 9700 PVR 250 Software: Windows XP Pro DX9 Newest SageTV release There's nothing actually wrong with my .mpg files, though. I burn them to DVD all the time. I have had no sync issues or anything like that. Good luck with the import. I look foward to seeing what happens. |

Okay, the way SageTV is handling the .mpgs that it makes itself is the problem for me. I have just imported a random .mpg file that I downloaded from the internet without any problems. Any ideas on why this would be?

Maybe there's something in the format that the 250 is encoding them in?
[conspiracy]Would it be beyond Hauppauge to put something a little proprietary into their files?[/conspiracy] That just seems weird, though, since WMP plays 'em just fine. I don't get it. |

rrussell, when you get a chance, try importing one of the .mpg files from this page:
http://www.hhtv.org.uk/videos.htm Let me know if it works (it worked for me). Also, what PVR250 drivers are you using? |

Oops, it seems I can only import mpeg1 clips successfully. I downloaded a random mpeg2 clip and that didn't import .
I also tried a repair install of Windows XP Pro. That didn't help either. |

Okaaaay.. let's see.
Hauppauge driver version 1.16.11.20347 from the device management screens. "Aircraft1.mpg" from that site imported fine. And, suddenly, the enterprise episode I've been wanting to import (the only one left, really) imported. "From Hell," however, did not. Feh! Feh, I say! It's Nero 5.5.10.35 with the mpeg2 encoder plugin. I don't know anything about it having any problems. I'm just a little cheesed off 'coz I had to pay for the plugin and it doesn't solve my problem. But that's got nothing to do with anyone here ;-) The thing is that it DID burn one mpg for me. Just, not the one I wanted to burn. (That is, I wanted to burn it at the time as a test, but I don't really care about saving it long-term.) |
