Just got the Sage 2.1 beta installed & setup the Sage client on the MediaMVP. After looking at several of the other apps this appears to be the most stable & have the best video playback of them all. I realize this is all in beta & a lot of the menus & functionality aren't finished. But I saw some pretty shoddy menus, washed out, muddy video, & functionality that just didn't do well at all. I'd still like to see the ability to schedule & delete videos (plus complete all the features) on the MediaMVP client but otherwise thought it looked really good & ran stable for about 3 or 4 hours this afternoon without ever rebooting. The competition has shown problems within minutes. I expect to be using these two (Sage 2.1 on wife's PC/Sage client on MediaMVP, ver. 2.2.22237) consistantly & watching for upgrades as they develop.

I'm excited about the possibilities of a full, real , MediaMVP client in 2.1.

I'm using Snapstream 3.5 now, but I'm thinking of switching. I have one computer that I use for TV recording now. I would like that one to do just TV Recordings (it has the PVR250 card). I'd like my bigger computer to be the home media server. I use a MediaMVP to see the videos, pictures, and music. I also use my laptop to view stuff.

Would I need to buy (1) SageTV, (1) SageTV Recorder, and (1) SageTV Client? Would I have to buy another SageTV client for the MediaMVP when the full client comes out? Although at first glance it seems like a lot, it would save me a computer upgrade now that would be more expensive.

Another question... Would I need to buy a second SageTV client license for the MediaMVP when that full client plug-in ships?

I'm not quite sure how you want your setup. But if you are wanting to run Sage on your home media server but still do recordings on the computer that is currently doing recordings... Then you would need a copy of Sage and Sage Recorder. But if you're just wanting the media server to house the recordings then you could just run Sage on your recording machine and have the recordings folder set to a shared folder on your media server. This would eliminate having to buy Sage Recorder.

As for the laptop, yes, you will need Sage Client. And unless Frey comes up with a separate license for the Media MVP, I believe you will need a regular client license for that also.

It sounds like I'd need to buy Sage Recorder, too, then. Does that also run as a service? And Would the SageTV computer need to be running in order to "kick off" the recordings on the recording server, or does the SageTV computer download the schedule into the recording server?

I need to have the other computer do the recordings due to the cable lines in the house. The recording server is also not in a sleeping area, so I don't mind keeping it on all the time.

I'm waiting for 2.1 to ship before I try it on a free trial basis. I wouldn't want to rule it out from the 2.0 version limitations.
