Release Candidate Issues

I have several issues with SageTV Beta RC:

1. I bought SageRecorder and when I installed the SageTV Beta it disappeared. I had to reinstall SageRecorder.

2. Using library features of SageTV makes the loading of the program take forever. I have about 2000 mp3s and about 100 TV recordings. It takes about 3 minutes from the time I start the program till I am able to use it. I believe that these libraries should be built only when the user adds titles to the library.

3. When trying to play Music I get the following results

by Album ==> locks up program
by Artist ==> locks up program
by Genre ==> Works Fine
by Artist - Album ==> Does Nothing
by Genre - Artist ==> Does Nothing
by Song Title ==> Works Fine

4. Memory Usage 108,000K with Library 50,000K without.
myHTPC with the same Music library loaded 20,000K

5. Customizing the user interface is hard to understand(and I'm a Computer Science Graduate Student).

6. I have made changes to the configuration that have caused the program to crash on startup. I then have to delete the properties file in order to start the program. I then have to reconfigure the program.

Some suggestions to make the program better:

1. Preload the music library instead of importing it everytime the program loads.

2. Give the user access to the Detailed Setup screen without having to run SageTV.

3. Change the user interface for customizing the look.

4. Allow SageRecorder to remain on a system that installs SageTV Trial.

5. Add Pictures to the Library.

Hi, welcome to the party.
I think I might have a answer for you on 1 and 4.
Some other user had a similiar problem, installing the same version of each program solved it. I'm no employee or expert but I think I remember reading somewhere that SageTV and SageRecorder share or use some common parts. As for the customising the UI, there is supposed to be a new UI in 2.0. I'm glad they are focussing on buiding a stable app first then looks second, but I can't wait to see 2.0. Compared to the first release the current version is a beauty contest winner, so it will only keep getting better.

5 is in there, but we don't advertise it because it's lame. There's an enable_picture_library option in the properties file if you'd like to see what it is.

Pictures will be done in a way that is much more satisfactory in a future release.
