Permanent mark forum read

Is there a way to mark certain forums read permanently? Every time I turn around the hardware forum has another post, and I never read that. If I ever need hardware information, I'll search for it. And, I don't need info on Australia, UK, etc. since I don't live there. It would be nice to have a way to "ignore forum" or something so that they don't show unread messages.

Right, but that only marks the forum read until the next new post comes along. I want to mark it read permanently...so that I never see new threads.

But I don't want to lose all of the new post notifications. I just only want to see them for the forums I'm interested in. I don't think I can do that without cookies. For example, I want to see a notification of new posts in certain forums, like "Sage TV Software" and "Sage TV Customizations," etc., but I DON'T want to see them for certain forums, like "Hardware Support" and "Sage TV Germany," etc. I think the only way to do that would be an option to permanently "ignore" a given forum, while the others continue to be tracked. Does that make sense?

What you want is some sort of "Ignore Forum" setting... but I don't think there is such an option.

Edit: Duh! I didn't read your previous post closely enough & just noticed you said the same thing!

Ha! Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. Nothing like that exists? Is it even possible? I imagine it would be the same kind of thing as the "mark forum read," just in reverse.

I don't think there is an option for that... or at least I don't see one. Do you use "View New Posts" to see the latest postings? That display shows which forum the post is in, so for nowyou could simply not read the posts in those forums.

Yeah, I use that. I just wish there was a way to not have the others show up. Every time I turn around someone has posted in Hardware support. Sheesh.

This is why you need someone who can mod vb on the staff . There are mods for stuff like this out there for VB, but I don't think it's an option on 2.2.9 by default. Need to research it but I think it IS possible with the 3.x versions of VB...

*EDIT* Just for clarities sake: by Mod I don't mean Moderate (Opus4 does an outstanding job), I mean Modify, as in modify the php code to add features & such. There is a very large quantity of mods that can be performed on the VB code...
