one idea would be to uninstall all decoders and install one try it for a few days
then install another and try it for a few days
etc....

but do not use the moonlight codecs if they give you issues

also what are your hardware specifications

and how new is your install of Windows?
and which windows?

Hey,
My laptop specifications are at: http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/n...ectedType=5660
I also have 512 mb of ram, 2.5 ghz processor, 60 gb of hd space with an external usb 120. External creative sound card. Hauppauge pvr2-usb and a usb-uirt. Let me know if you think any other specs would be helpful.

I'm not using the moonlight codec anymore, just intervideo. My windows is XP Professional Sp1 and I haven't reinstalled at all, so my windows install is as old as my comp which is about 20 months give or take.

That's an interesting idea about uninstalling all decoders, the problem is there is a lot of stuff under direct show filters when i run filter manager and I can't tell which ones have no effect on this situation and which ones do. and im not sure if removing all of them would be safe.

Thanks for replying and trying to help again. I can't believe no one else is having this problem or seen anything like it. I guess I'm just lucky.

I uninstalled the moonlight codec, and it hasn't crashed in a day or two, but I have no idea if the problem is actually gone or not. I wish i knew what exactly was causing this though

if you change the decoder you want to use in SageTV
you need to use the reload media player button
or else it does not just reset until the next time you use SageTV and if incorrectly setup could easily cause the error

sounds like you had elecard incorrectly setup

Yeah, it's configured to use intervideo. But the crash just happened again, except with a new twist. This time, it looked like it was recording find, but when I went back to play the file with about 2 minutes left in recording time, it gave me the error. And it only seems to have actually recorded the first 15 minutes of the half hour show even though it only gave me the error when I actually went to play it.

try changing to render to overlay

also if it is not recording correctly
make sure you motherboard drivers are up to date and the driver for the usb pvr 2 are up to date
if not close SageTV completely and make sure it is not set to start with the computer and update

another option rather than using the crappy hauppauge decoders
is download the Dscaler 5 .005 release

you will need to add these lines to the property files though
additional video filters
add Dscaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder
and for additional Audio Decoders
add Dscaler Audio Decoder

it is free and might cause this issue less often

do you have the laptop plugged to the pvr usb2 always?

It was on overlay already. I changed it to VMR9 but that just seemed to make it worse.

How do I check my mb driver? The website for my laptop has a new driver for my chipset. Is that what I want?

I checked hauppauge's webpage. My drivers are the newest ones.

Maybe I'll try to use the dscaler thing. That sounds interesting.

No, my laptop isn't always plugged into it. I take my computer back and forth from my apt to school.

you think that could be an issue
with pvr usb2 being unplugged and replugged in all the time ?
for some reason I think this could cause issues but maybe not

get the driver fom shspvr.com/forum for the pvr usb2
and yes try updating your motherboard drivers

I dunno if the plugging/unplugging could make a difference. i hope not, cause i don't really have a choice about that.

I got the new driver for the usb2. its weird, though, i completely uninstall the old drivers, install the new exe and when i go to control panel, etc., drivers it still shows the old ones. any idea why?

At any rate, it's still happening, though somewhat differently. Sometimes now it won't display the error message but it will still be messed up. How do i use the dscaler thing?

goto the Dscaler forum and download dscaler 5
it is just a mepg decoder like Intervideo or cyberlink

and you need to use hcw.clear.exe to uninstall everything

you should read my instructions for the installing and uninstalling of drivers
I recommend using the ones from shspvr.com/forum
it is in the FAQs
and should apply to your device

you should not need the update.exe unless you use the hauppauge remote
