Question I almost give up . . .

Having the devil of a time understanding the SageTV set up. Anyone out there in the Los Angeles area willing to come help?

Happy to reimburse for your time. I wish there were classes somewhere . . . but in lieu of that - some kind SageTV expert would be just dandy.

P.S. I live in Burbank. I have a plasma TV, home theatre system, 2 TV Tuner cards, and an extra hard drive (ostensibly for music).

Do you really have SageTVRecorder? (That's what this forum is for; I can move this to a place where more people will see it if not.)

What part of the setup process is not clear? Installation, configuration, connecting all the devices, etc... or would the answer to that be "Yes"?

The answer would be Yes to all. I have Sage TV recorder. And I am having a terrible time setting up and connecting all the devices.

We did get it to record - but no sound. In live tv the sound track is terribly behind the video track. Worse than those old dubbed Japanese horror movies.

It seems like we are missing something. Probably something very simple . . . but it eludes us.

You need to connect the sound out from your cable/sat box to the sound input of the PVR 250.

Beyond that, if you could tell us what devices, hardware (capture card), and goals are we can probably better help you connect it all.

Also, is this all on one computer? SageTVRecorder does not have program listings (the EPG), but SageTV does. Exactly what software are you using? Just SageTVRecorder? SageTV too? If you are using a single PC & are using SageTV, SageTVRecorder shouldn't be needed. (Yes, I know this may not apply... just trying to cover all the very basics first.)

It is all on one PC - bought specifically for SageTV. The PC has way more than the "requirements" for set up. It runs on XP. What I purchased from Sage is the following:

STVSMBR SageTV Multi-Tuner Bundle & Remote
UIRT USB-UIRT
SageTV Client Version 2.0

As for goals - I want to replace my VCR with SageTV. I found myself too often forgetting to set the VCR to record, or set the cable box to change channels. I was hoping to be able to Set it Once (like TIVO) and forget it.

Also, to that end - there are certain shows that I want to save and then burn to my DVD burner (included in the PC I purchased). I am one of those silly people who buys certain TV shows. This year I was hoping to just make my own.

Am I missing an important piece of software? Let me know and I will buy it now!

First of all, if you are on one PC, you only need SageTV; and you have SageTV, not SageTVRecorder. Don't bother installing the client, since that is used on a second networked PC so that it can watch the shows that are on the SageTV server PC. (I'll move this to a forum where more people may see it to offer help.)

The USB-UIRT comes with instructions for downloading and installing its drivers from the mfr's web site, so do that first, or at least after installing the tuners but before installing SageTV.

You will have the video & sound outputs from your cable boxes go to the tuner cards. If you have a single converter box, its output would go to one tuner & a direct cable coax connection would go to the second card. The audio output from your sound card/motherboard will go to your audio system. The output from your video card goes to the TV. You may want to start with connecting a single tuner directly to the cable coax first & then worry about installing the 2nd one.
