I just got TT2 with the bundled NVDVD4 codecs. I don't think they are any better than the 2.5 version. I think I need a more powerful video card though to take advantage.

I am really incensed with nVidia's treatment of it's customers. I paid over $400US for a 6800GT (PNY), the most I have ever paid for a video card, and it does NOT perform as advertised. The nVidia 4.0 codecs should have been included with every card. Further, if my video processor is broken when it came out of the box, I expect nVidia to send me a new one when they get their problem fixed. This is lawsuit time, maybe class action.

If anyone can direct me on how to get the nv 4 codecs that I've already paid for to see if they work on my system, I'd appreciate it!

DVD decoding is not a function solely of your video card. Keep that in mind. Just because Nvidia made a dvd decoder doesnt mean its the holy grail for anyone with an Nvida card. There is a mulititude of software and hardware that could be hindering your enjoyment of smooth playback. And this could be something given out free but who is going to pay for the developement of the codec and pay for the rights to use Dolby and other items included in the product. Am sure if Nvidia could use it as selling point to make more money off their cards by providing it free, they would. The graphics chip market is very cut-throat right now, anything to push them ahead I am sure they would use.

well maybe they should admit a problem with the video cards and remove that WMV acceleration works for the 6800s from their website until then..............

I must be missing something here. DVD playback is based on MPEG2. WMV is based on Mpeg4...I think. Granted, if you want to play WMV files its a cool feature I guess. But I dont see where that helps with DVD playback. I am not sure I am seeing eye to eye with ya Would WMA support help with DVD playback? I admit that my field of expertise in computers has nothing to do with A/V

ok nvidia 6800s are suppose to do accelerate WMVs and MPEGs

it does not accelerate WMVs
and nvidia has decided to throw out a couple notices to review sites and news sites rather than making an official statement
that the feature is broken

they are doing this to bypass taking responsibility
so I am making it my responsibility
to give out free decoders
hehe

I wonder if that will be something that with a firmware update or driver change they will have fixed. I miss the days of updating Video card rom chips.....its was a simpler time...a time when you just had to ask yourself....is there really a need for more than 4MB of video ram...I mean seriously. Where o where did the good ol days go.

Anyways....maybe they're not offically announcing this blunder because a fix is in the works?

Regardless.....Not getting what was promised does suck. Am kind of upset bout nividias decision to Drop Sound Storm 2 on their new mobos. FOR GODS SAKE THROW US A BONE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nVidia has never, and never said that their decoders would be included with thier cards, some manufacturers choose to include them (IMO all should) but you did NOT pay for them already since nVidia never said they would be included.

Then take the card back, whine to the manufacturer, complain to nVidia, that's what you should do, but whining to us isn't going to get you anywhere.

AFAIK, it's up to the individual card manufacturers to decide which (if any) DVD software to include with their cards. nVidia itself has nothing to do with that. Secondly, there is no "app" that goes along with the 4.0 decoders, I believe nVDVD 3 is the most recent version available for bundling.
