Multiple Licences ..an Open Letter..

Can/Does Frey offer a discount for multiple licences of thier software?

I'd like to build a "TEST" PC for software testing, and would like to run SAGE on it.

Since STUDIO is not available, my only recorse seems to be to try and learn all these complicated add-ins and XML stull and so forth to get my HTPC the way I want it.

I wont practice on my HTPC, as a crash here would set me back days of rebuilding if I caouldn't recover 100% from a crash....like I had to with SP2 install.

I don't feel I should pay full price to beta test add ons done by others that I should have been making for myself with STUDIO.

Can I get a multiple user licence at a discount? Is it possible Frey??

If you think you can get it going in two weeks, you could always just use a 15 day trial.

No, cause I want to test out ALL the skins as well as other software working with SAGE (burning software, games etc....0 and I will need to have a system up and running for MONTHS to do this.

I'm anticipating a steep uphill battle for me to get the skins to work (all this "change this" and "add that" confused the heck out of me) so I anticipate crashing SAGE and or XP and having to reload a few times before I get it right.

Man ... this town keeps getting rougher and rougher ...

I run SageTV Server at my entertainment center and SageTV Client at my PC over the net. I do all my testing / tweaking on the client. Then when I like what I see I migrate the upgrades to my server.

The client is a whopping $29.95

I'd say that's a value deal ....

I tested Sage & two of the major STV's (in a 4 tuner setup) in under 15 days, so I think it's fair to say it can be done.

You really have an unlimited time to test Sage. I don't know how other people do it, but when I'm testing things out, I just have separate test partitions. Otherwise, how do you hold things constant? How do you know the reason things aren't working now isn't because of some small change you made a month ago. When you have separate partitions, you just need to restore the partition from it's safe state, and reinstall Sage.

You can also use MIcrosoft's Virtual PC, it works well for emulation (I even tested MCE2005 under emulation).

I thought of that as well but I've read the SKINS don't all work with the clients, or interact as they should. Since I only plan to to run the main box, I find it logical to test in that environment.

I really should invest in some backup software as mentioned.

Hmmm ... I have yet to come accross skins reacting differently when applied to client vs. server. Just my experiance thus far.

Oh ... and back up is never a bad thing ...
