ActiveMovie Window

Been using STV for a couple of days now and of the three I've tried with my newly-acquired PVR-250, (WTV, BTV and STV) this is the one I'm sticking with for the various reasons I'm sure you've all arrived-at as well. But onward:

I've been fooling with the different mpeg2 decoders. The Intervideo, Sonic, Cyberlink and ffshow using my favorite stv file, Malore's.

This morning while changing from Intervideo to Cyberlink using the 'reload media player' option, my picture screen detached itself from the main STV body and began to float with the title of 'ActiveMovie Window' on the top frame. Great! Love it that way. I can fool with the menus while the tv pic is playing in the resizeable window. The main STV body in TV mode is empty, but once clicked the familiar controls appear, and they work.

Did I just miss this option before? Because the numerous other times I've used the 'reload media player' option when changing decoders no detachment ever occurred. Or is it a property specifically of the Cyberlink codec system, since Cyberlink's player is also detached in normal use?

I want to be able to use this option - if it is one - as I find it so useful; beats transparent menus any day.

Of course the other possibility is that I inadvertendly clicked on something obvious, and that everyone's been using this option all along; that I've just written all this for nothing (cough).

Thanx for any elucidation. Nex

Actually, sounds like it's because of your decoder. Cyberlink in known not to work with VMR9, the Activemovie Window should never appear.

OK, thanx for the response.

But doesn't this bring up an interesting point? A detached 'dashboard' is a pretty handy thing. That's essentially what this is, and I've been using it like that for the last hour.

Movie Window active, and body of STV on another part of the screen, made just small enough to still display the menus. Whizz through menus on the small dashboard without disturbing the tv window.

I'm going to be using this mode again, if it cooperates with me. In the meantime I'm thinking that this may be a quick and easy function to incorporate into the SageTV program as a new feature. Nex

Problem is there's no way to go fullscreen if that happens.

True. Of course full screen mode in my case kinda defeats the usefulness of detached mode. For the times I need FS I'll just revert to Sonic and undetach (or more precisely, attach).

I'm happy to report that my Cyberlink/VMR9 setup willl generate the detached mode everytime - so far.

I wonder if this is a general effect. Nex

Like I said, Cyberlink/PowerDVD is known not to work correctly with VMR9, ie, you get the Activemovie window.

I just thought it was funny that stanger89 said the same thing directly above.

I guess it can't hurt to reiterate it.

This is kinda the opposite of what I want. How do i make the video play in the sage tv program (i.e without detaching)? I just want to know as a reference since it is pretty useful to have it detached. I recently formatted and installed some codecs, and all the sudden my video is detached, which it wasn't before.

Thanks
