Need help with procedure...
Hi All,
I'm going to be swapping two Roslyn cards for two MCE's. I'm removing/uninstalling the two Roslyn cards today to ship back to PCAlchemy and should be receiving the two MCE's shortly after they receive my cards. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how best to do this (old driver removal, new driver installation, etc.) without affecting SageTv too much? Or will I need to reinstall/reconfigure SageTv because of the new cards? Thanks in advance. |

Sage should be fine, it's database (wiz.bin) is pretty much separate from it's configuration (sage.properties). If you want to be really thorough (read OVERKILL)here's what I'd do:
1) Copy your wiz.bin/wiz.bak to a safe place. 2) Copy your sage.properties (this isn't as important depending on how much configuring you've done). 3) Nuke your Windows install (like I said Overkill) 4) Reinstall windows and MAKE AN IMAGE 5) Install windows updates and make an incrimental image 6) Install your drivers, and make an incrimental image 7) Install your HTPC apps, and (say it with me now!) make an incrimental image 8+) Before you make a big update - install anything "risky" like drivers, unknown apps, etc. (one more time!) make an incrimental image That will give you a really solid foundation for whatever you do, and since you have regular backups, if a new driver/apps screws something up, you can go right back to where you were. Now I know that's a lot of work, so all you really need to do proabably, is follow the hauppuage driver update proceduer (hcwclear, install drivers, etc.) and then re-configure Sage with the new tuners. |

Thanks, Stanger. Just wanted to be sure I had my bases covered and didn't mess things up with Sage while swapping the cards. While I think your suggestion would be a "best case" scenario, I agree, it is probably overkill for what little time I have to work on my HTPC at the moment. Best I can do at the moment is just keep a log of any changes I make and what affect is has, if any.
I do have another question now that I think about it. Are there different revisions for the 250MCE's? If so, should I make sure the cards are matched or the same. For some reason, I recall seeing some posts about different cards revisions (or something like that...not sure what to enter to search). |

There are probably different revisions, but it's nothing to worry about. You're probably referring the the -16 -15 encoder chip issue, which AFAIK has been resolved by new drivers. Besides, AFAIK it's really hard to find any 250's with the older -15 chip anymore.

However, unless I'm misunderstanding the point in this other thread, there seems to be a new revision of the 250 that is causing new problems: Sound but no video. I don't know if it has anything to do with 250MCE cards.
