They would not affect playback but they would effect the recording
anyways you can try it if you want but it does not sound like you are going to

not every version of a driver is perfect and they do add bugs when fixing others

Re: the hauppage drivers as I tag along.

I don't suspect that is the cause because I went back and tried playing some previously recorded shows from before SP2 was applied and they now have the same problems.

So that leads me to believe the recordings are good since I watched them fine before SP2 and the playback is the problem.

Seems OK now with hardware acceleration off, but trying to decide if I should leave it that way or back-out SP2 so I can have hardware acceleration back.

Thoughts?

I wasn't trying to be rude in my response, but I suspect I came off that way. I was just saying in my case the recordings are fine. I appriciate you trying to help us with this issue.

Is no one else having this problem with SP2? Or are most still using SP1?

I definitely do NOT have this problem with SP2, on my Sage server or two clients (all running SP2).

Jason, can you give me some more detail on your setup? IE: video decoder used, memory, CPU speed. etc.? Trying to see if I can pinpoint a clue to the cause of the problem in my system.

Also, I assume you ARE using hardware acceleration in Directx9 and your video decoder?

Well, if you mean am I using VMR9, I am NOT. I use overlay.

I have yet (on ANY hardware) to get VMR9 to be as smooth as overlay, so I have all but given up on that idea. I can live without semi-transparent menus and such.

Thanks Jason.

I did have VMR9 with DXVA working fine with SP1 and the picture quality was, and is, noticebaly better with VMR9 compared to Overlay on my rig.

I think I will bite the bullet and rollback to SP1.

I upgraded to SP2 last week, and I'm definitely having problems since. It's an Athlon 2500, Asus NForce2 board with a Saphire Radeon 9600 video card. Both old recordings and new experience serious jitter during motion scenes. I especially noticed it after I had fast forwarded through commercials. Experimenting, I found I could make it go away by rewinding, sometimes multiple times. It seems like the fast forwarding function throws something off with the playback, causing this whole-picture shaking jitter during motion scenes.

That is pretty much what I saw - with the fast forward seeming to mess it up. I rolled back to SP1.

I also uninstalled SP2 and went back to SP1. It not only solved this problem, but also another problem with Zoom Player.

This problem not only effects my SageTV setup while using NVDVD or sonic decoders. It also did the samething when I tried playing a dvd with the NVDVD app.

The Zoom Player problem is actually a bit different than what's occurring here...but just as annoying I suppose...

Has anyone discovered a pattern to the SP2 causing ghosting? I was running fine with SP1, NVDVD 2.55, VMR9. Upgraded to SP2 and I get the same ghosting problems, especially after fast forwarding a few times. (if I stop viewing the show, and start again, it's fine)

Upgraded to Sage 2.1 RC4. No difference.

I don't want to roll back to SP1 unless I absolutely have to! Incidentally, if I play a recorded show in Media Player or NVDVD, it seems I can skip around without any problems.

So is it a Sage+VMR9+SP2 issue?

I've experienced the ghosting in NVDVD 2.55 while watching a DVD. Though not as often as I did with Sage before turning off hardware acceleration. So I think it's a NVDVD hardware acceleration+SP2 issue.

Turak - I thought you also had the ghosting problem with the Sonic decoders?

I did have the problem with the sonic decoders also. I've had this problem with sage+sonic, sage+nvdvd 2.55 and just playing a dvd with nvdvd 2.55. On my SageTV server I rolled back to SP1 and the problem went away. On one of my clients that I use more as a general purpose computer, I disabled hardware accel from within NVDVD and the problem went away.

Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem (other than uninstalling SP2)? Right after installing SP2 shows are unwatchable (it looks like a deinterlace problem). I tried uninstalling DX9c and reinstalling DX9b but it didn't fix the issue. I would prefer not to have to reinstall Windows to get this fixed. Thanks for any help/advice.
