SageTV and SageRecorder issue...

Riddle me this...

I have SageTV server running one one machine with a PVR350 capture card. All is well with that setup.

I have just added a second machine into the mix running SageRecorder as a network encoder with a PVR-USB2.

I followed Opus4's excellent directions on how to properly set up a network encoder and the SageTV server now sees the PVR-USB2. System information reports that both capture devices are recording nothing.

I go into the LiveTV guide and select a show to record now. System information states that the selected show is recording on the PVR350.

I then select another show to record on a different channel at the same time slot and instead of the show starting to record on the PVR-USB2, I get a conflict notice that asks if I want to record the new show instead of the one currently recording.

Why won't SageTV record the second show using the networked encoder?

Hmmmm... I gave instructions on how to set up a network encoder? I _think_ I've only linked to this document from Frey: Setting up Network Encoders. Are those the instructions you followed?

Did you configure an EPG source for the PVR-USB2 through the setup wizard? Even though SageTV can 'see' it, it might not think there is a valid source attached to it.

Solved the problem...

Turned out to be an issue with XP SP2 and Windows Firewall.

I had to pass port 6969 thru the firewall and restart Sage Recorder.

Work like a champ now !!!!!!!

Great!

That seems to be a very common issue with the SP2 firewall, since it now defaults to ON. Did it not give any indication that it was blocking the attempt to connect? Zone Alarm may not be perfect (what is??), but that's one thing I like about it -- it will announce and ask about any such connection attempts. Hmmm... at least those that try to connect OUT.

On the other hand, I tried the latest ZA on my office PC recently & it crashed the thing every few minutes. That seems to be a common discussion issue on their forums & at least restoring the previous version worked.
