Imported to Sage Recordings?

I needed to move a bunch of Sage files off my hard disk to a backup to make room for the Olympics. I have put them all back, but Sage now shows NO shows in Sage Recordings. The files show in Imported Video, by filename, but it's a pain to access after having gotten used to the Sage organization.

Is there a way to get Sage to read the files and add them to Sage Recordings? Please link me up if this has been answered before; I couldn't find it. Thanks.

Right now, I know of no way to re-inport recordings back into SageTV once they are removed from the internal list of recordings. If you still have your old wiz.bin file, it may be possible to close SageTV, restore the old wiz.bin file, move those recordings back to a SageTV Video Directory, then restart SageTV. But, even that has no guarantees, since you could then lose the info for newer recordings.

See the FAQs for more details on moving recordings (near the end of the list, currently).

We were typing our first replies at the same time. It may still be an option if there aren't many interesting new recordings. BUT, save the current wiz.bin too, in case it doesn't work & you want to return to it. Also, make sure "seeker/use_errant_dir=true" is set in the properties file so no recordings get deleted.

This seems like a pretty big oversight on the part of the Sage people, don't you think? It's not like moving files around on a computer is a rare thing.

Is there some way to force a rebuild of the wiz.bin? Some programs will reconstruct a file like that if it's missing. Should I try renaming wiz.bin?

If this is in fact impossible, maybe I could move this thread to Requested Features for the next revision....

As far as I know, it has been requested before -- to be able to reimport SageTV recordings & still retain the recording data. If you delete wiz.bin & its backup, it will get recreated, but it will not include the information on those files on your drive. In fact, if you don't have that errant dir setting I mentioned above, the files could just get deleted.

Not an oversight, a decision, Sage was designed from the ground up to be an HTPC app. As such Sage is designed to manage recordings and diskspace itself. It's designed with the idea that the user never has to interact with the PC on the windows level, and as such no need to handle moved files, special recording dirs, etc.

That does not mean it won't or shouldn't happen, if you want it ask. Sage's user base is growing and Sage is getting used in ways probably not considered originally, and Sage is evolving to meet those users' needs.

I think it is safe to say that this has been requested numerous times from many people and it would be a great addition to Sage and hopefully is on their radar for a future release.

I have added another request for it to the wanted features thread. Thanks for all your help; at least I didn't spend days searching for a way to do something that should be simple, but is in fact impossible.

Is this still impossible? Today I found that sage.tv had lost all of the data about favorites and previously recorded shows. My last wiz.bin backup was last week.

If true, this is very short-sighted.

Yeah, Sage actually lost me as a customer on this one. Very short sighted. I'm now using Beyond TV 3.5. They use small HTML files with the same name as the recorded stream to contain program information. You move the files together and the information stays intact. Smart.
