USB-UIRT with mx-500 remote
Hi, just got a USB-UIRT from Frey and also an MX-500 remote. Can anyone point me the direction to get this all working with STV? IE: do I need to use Girder? I notice people mention using the Hauppage remote to train the USB-UIRT, but I don't have that remote. Thanks.

I was able to get this to work by having STV learn the MX-500 buttons directly. My question is - is this the "best" way. I see many people using Girder. Is that just not apoplicable/needed when using the MX-500 remote or is it for use outside of SageTV?

The difference between having SageTV learn the codes directly vs. using Girder is that with Girder you can control additional apps. When used directly with SageTV, your remote can't be used to control anything else. So, it is up to you & whether you need/want to control anything other than SageTV with your remote.

I get it. So for example, if I want the "mouse pad" on the MX-500 to work to move the mouse in Windows, outside STV, I need to use Girder.
So, if I use Girder for that, do I need to use Girder for it's STV access as well, or does that just make sesne to do. Or, do I continue with the STV control as I have it now?

Plus you can do some fun stuff like setting up certain button to toggle or rotate through commands (like one button can rotate through AR modes). |
