Need another category: Yes, though not everything is 100%. I use it and will continue to do so, but haven't been able to log on to Outlook since the install. Not a big deal since I can access through the web too, but still annoying.

What version of Outlook you running? I've got 2k3 on mine, and it works fine at home and at work through our VPN to my house (I have my exchange server at home, picks up all my mail from various email accounts).

I'm using 2k3 as well, through VPN I keep getting this error:
Your Microsoft Exchange Server is Unavailable You can retry connecting to the server using the network, or work offline and connect using dial-up networking. The server containing the Global Address List is no longer available. You can reconnect to a different server by restarting Outlook or retry the operation when the server is reachable. There is no problem with our server. Not sure what happened, but it started immediately after the update install... |

Are you using a hardware VPN, or software? Also have you got SP1 for Office installed? My system is running a hardware VPN (Smoothwall linux firewall on my end, Sonicwall hardware box on the other end), and I have SP1 installed (that might be the difference).

I have SP1 office installed, but am using software VPN. Should that make a difference?

It might, not really sure though. What VPN software are you using currently? I've tried the Sonicwall client and it seems to work fine. You migth also want to put entries into your lmhosts file for your domain server & exchange server, so your PC will know what IP's they refer to by name. That's usually been my problem with client PC's. If you don't have a lmhosts file (it shouldn't have an extension, the one with .sam on the end is a sample file), create one in your windows/system32/drivers/etc folder following the .sam example structure. This has fixed 90% of my client's problems in the past with exchange. You could also try turning OFF the firewall built into windows and see if that makes a difference.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that, because I had it turned off before but when SP2 installed it automatically turned it on. I meant to disable it, but haven't gotten to it, and that may be causing the problems. I'll try that first and if it doesn't work I'll go with your other suggestions. Thanks! |

mbrown3-
Don't turn off the firewall. There is a setting (I forget exactly where) that you need to enable to allow Outlook 2k3 to work properly. This is documented at the Microsoft support site that I think mls linked to on this site. The majority of problems that people are having (Microsoft included) with app compatibility stems from this. Just don't arbitrarily disable the firewall. It'd be like getting a new high security front door on your house, but never using the locks. -PGPfan |

Turning off the firewall would be more of a troubleshooting effort . Not permanently, just to see if that's what is blocking 2k3. If it was the problem, then making any config changes you need to fix the SP2 firewall's blocking of 2k3 would be in order.
Also, if you have a good hardware firewall, you don't really need the internal windows firewall... I use both at home though, mainly because I've never gotten around to disabling the SP2 firewall, and on my laptop I need it since I do tend to roam and connect to other less-secure networks.

I concur w/ mbrown3, the "using SP2 but have problems" choice is missing from the poll.
In my case, I can't get my Client to connect to the Server since upgrading my WinXP-based Server with SP2. Incidently, my Client is running Win2k. |

You may have to set up the ports that SageTV uses on the firewall's exception list, and allow them to be used. I didn't on my machines, but I'm running XP on both.

I've got it up & working, but I had to HWCLEAR & reinstall all of my drivers (PVR-250 & PVR-USB2).
In retrospect, I wished I hadn't installed it. |

Enabling "File and Printer Sharing" on the SageTV Server allowed SageTVClient (running on a Win2k laptop) to connect.

Never really thought about it, but I always turn that on with my PC's at home, as I move stuff between them all the time.
As an aside, since I put SP2 on my ITX client machine, I've been able to play my Divx/Xvid movies without stutters, but I also removed alot of services & stuff that weren't required for the machine to run (I used XPLite pro to do it). Also might be the latest Xvid drivers, since I put them on at the same time. I think the only thing I've NOT tried to play are my Firefly episodes, as they were done with Ogm audio & xvid video... Have to test those as they take a bit more horsepower to decode than standard xvids..

I uninstslled SP2 on my Sage box last night. I was having problems with my MCE remote right after I got SP2 installed. Also my NVDVD 4.0 audio drivers didn't work anymore, no matter how many times I installed. After I removed it, everything went back to normal. Guess I will have to wait on that one.
On the positive side of things, I have SP2 installed on all of my machines at home and work, and it works like a champ.

What version of NVDVD are you using? I've got the latest version on mine, and it works fine. It's very possible that the version I have was specifically written for SP2. Very possibly might be the version of the audio drivers for your sound card too, Microsoft suggest getting the latest vesions of drivers for your hardware.
