Question on using SageTV Client with SageTV

So, I finally have my SageTV running solid for the logest time. I love it.

I want to install SageTV Client on the computer upstairs since that room does not have cable tv access. No wires into that room.

I downloaded and installed SageTV Client on the computer and so far all I am able to view are recorded shows. When I try to watch live TV all I get is a black screen.

Do I need to install an extra tuner card into my system? Which system? The client or the server? Does it matter which kind of card I install? Would it make any difference on which machine I put it on? Remember, I have no cable drop in the room where the second computer is at.

I know most of those questions hindges on the fact that I need to have a second tuner card. I seem to remember using the client with only 1 tuner card with ver 1.4, but I could be wrong.

Any help please.

The second computer is just a p4 2.4g with an ATI 128 Ultra w/ 32 Megs.
Server is a AMD 2500+ (oc'd to 3200+) with 1Gig Mem, ATI 9800Pro, Haup PVR250.

Thanks!
AlexM.

You should be able to watch LiveTV with one tuner I do this all the time. The only thing is you not watch two different live shows on each computer. What decoders do you have on the other computer ???

So, if I want to watch a live show on each computer I will need two tuners?

I have the NVidia and Intervideo Decoders installed on both computer. It doesnt give me any errors when trying to vew live tv, just a black screen.

If you want to watch the same show then you only need one. You can also watch a pre-recorded show on one and liveTh on the other wiith only 1 tuner.

If I can just pop in here... So as I understand it, I don't need a tuner in the client machine(s) to watch live TV or SAGETV recordings. If I want to watch a different live channel then what the server it showing, then I need a second tuner in the server (not the client) Does this mean that I can change channels on the server from the client location when watching live TV??

Yes you can as long as the server is not watching liveTV.
