System reqs for ffdshow, your thoughts

Ive got an AMD XP1700 512MB ram(1.4mhz oc'd toabout 1700mhz) and a PVR-250 that I am currently running sage on and of course it works great. Im looking into running ffdshow for playback however I have heard that the sys reqs are quite high. Is it possible to use ffdshow with this system, and if so is it even worth it?

Depends on what you want to do with it. I'd say you could probably do denoise (not Denoise3D though) and probably sharpen, but resize would probably be impossible.

Just curious, what decoders, video card, and type of display are you using?

FWIW, my 1.2GHz Mobile Athlon4 laptop (AthlonXP basically) can do just about any one thing in ffdshow, but no Denoise3D and no Resize.

also what type of display are you using ?

if it just a Standard non HD TV then you will probably not get a lot out of ffdshow and DXVA would be more preferrable

and what render do you intend to use?

Ahhh, so many questions The display I will be using is a Sony Wega 32", so its a non HDtv. I am using a geforce4mx card for the video out, and currently am using the Intervideo<sp?> decoder. (Whatever comes with sage). rI have never heard of DXVA what exactly does it do?

broderp,

Well the sage-community page has a guide on Capture Color Calibration, that coincidentally has instructions on how to install/setup ffdshow and sage. See the link in my sig.

flag,

DXVA stands for DirectX Video Accelleration. Basically it's a way to let your video card do some of the MPEG decoding. Your MX 440 should have pretty good DXVA so you might want to give that a try and see what you think.

Just be aware that DXVA and ffdshow are mutually exclusive options.
