Dedicating space for favs vs watching TV

hi,
i'm new here, as i just got sagetv recently. i've set it up and it appears to work fine, but i've run into a few problems i haven't found conclusive answers for after searching the forums.

I have a single partition i want to dedicate to recording favorites, and it's about 25GB. i notice that watching TV records the shows as they are displayed for obvious reasons (using clients etc.). is there a way to specify a limit on the amount of live tv recorded while leaving the whole 25GB for more important recordings (eg force live TV into a few GB and leave 20-something for favs)? i have about 2-5GB free on several other partitions if it helps at all.

additionally, i've discovered that some favorites are recorded for only 25 minutes or so vs the std 30min. it happens both with consecutive and independent shows. not sure what's happening here either.

apart from those 2 issues, it seems to be working fine even on my modest system, a 450 MHz P3 with 384 MB memory, 2 ide disks, a scsi disk, and the wintv 250.

thanks,
Jeremy

There is currently no way to seperate favorites from live TV. You can assign parts of diffrent drives as you see fit though. Sage will determine which one it uses automatically. With just 25 to 30 gigs, you are not going to have that great of a time. With acceptable recordings from 2 to 3 gigs and hour, thats not much space at all. BTW, live tv will be deleted automatically (unless its a favorite or a manual recording) so that should not cause you a problem.

I would say you should try and get yourself much more storage capacity. I don't know if Sage lists a minimum somewhere, but I would think that you should have at least 100GB to make proper use of this type of system.

thx for the response. if i watch tv beyond the capacity allocated, what does it do? it doesn't delete favorites does it?

i have a 120GB western digital drive with tons of DV waiting to be unloaded so that'll eventually get installed too!
