Cable Box Delay

I have a Motorola cable box and SageTV, output through a Hauppauge WinTV 250 to my monitor.

Any type of menu navigation using my cable box remote is really slow -- anywhere from three two ten seconds to do anything while navigating menus on the screen. When I use BTV, the delay is considerably less than that experienced with SageTV. When I hook the box up to the TV in the living room (no computer hookup), the box is fine.

Is there some tweaking that I can do with SageTV to help eliminate this delay?

Thanks in advance!

I believe this is the normal 'live tv is actually recorded TV on a couple of seconds delay' issue.

IIRC there's a way to shorten SageTV's delay, but don't recall how to do it.

SageTV was definitely not designed to operate this way, though. It is designed for you to use its menus, not your cable box' menus. Not trying to scold you or anything, just FYI. Sage's menus are a heck of a lot more friendly and speedy compared to my cable boxes menus.

But it's a little difficult to use Comcast's On Demand menu solely by using the SageTV interface.

Also just a side note, I hope you dong have your cable box as a PVR, the receiver with a HD, I had one of that kind and not only I got slight dely from sage but also on top of that internal recording was taking place which added additional few seconds to switch... Probably that is unrelated but wanted to metion this.
