Advantages/disadvantages to using WinTV PVR USB2?

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to using WinTV PVR USB2 versus the 250? Any known issues using the USB2 version with an already running 250MCE?

Thanks,
Steve

I don't know about the 250MCE, but my pvr-usb2 works great with my 250. I can't tell the differnece between their recordings.

Advantages: doesn't take a PCI slot

Disadvantages: is external & visible, costs more.

CompUSA has it listed for $100 this week, after rebates.

I just bought a 250 at Fry's on Friday for $90 then Sunday I saw the USB2 for $100. I thought it would be good to know the functional differences before I opened the 250. The USB2 might be better over the long term since it could be easier to move from one machine to another.

Oh yeah -- The usb2 is _easy_ to install, since you don't have to open your case and shouldn't even have to reboot. Install it, restart SageTV & add the new source. Done.

I forgot one thing: it has an FM tuner too. Even if support for that ever gets added, you can't use it & the TV tuner at the same time. I prefer to use a separate FM tuner. Hmmm... if it could ever schedule FM recordings, I might find that useful. But, that's wishful thinking at this point.

Andy, thanks for the feedback. Looks like I'll be well covered in FM tuners since the 250MCE I have has a FM tuner also.

Hmm... Why do I get the feeling having FM tuners in both an MCE and a USB2 might cause another mess of driver problems?

I wonder what driver issues I might have if I added a PVR-USB2 to my system with the PVR-250, PVR-350, and PVR-250MCE in it At this point, I'm afraid to touch it!

Another advantage of the USB2 is that it doesn't take an IRQ.

If you have a lot of tuners in one system, that's a consideration...
