My SageTV Server
I finally have my SageTV server built. I have 4 PVR 250's running now and hope to add a couple more into a remote system to have enough encoders to serve my entire house.
I built the system with the following parts: FIC AU13 Motherboard with SATA Raid - I picked this Nforce2 based board because it includes 6 PCI slots, onboard digital audio output (5.1 channel), USB 2.0, Firewire, and 2 Serial ATA ports with RAID 0,1 capability. Two 250GB Western Digital 7200 RPM drives. - These are Parallel ATA, but I installed a couple of Kingwin SAC01 Parallel to Serial ATA converter boards and have the drives in a stripped RAID 0 configuration with almost 500GB of capacity. Sigma Designs Xcard - For DVD Playback on a 36" television located in the room with the SageTV server. I would like to use it for Sage playback if the audio problems get resolved and if the entire SageTV app can be sent out the Component Video output of the Xcard. Radeon 9000 VIVO card - Provides excellent S-VIdeo output and Video in/Video out. The card is quiet because it is fanless. AMD 2700+ CPU - Probably overkill for this system but seemed like the right choice when using the Elecard decoder due to the high CPU utilization. I recently switched to the latest Cyberlink/ATI decoders and Utilization is way down so I might install an AMD 2000+ CPU instead. Zalman CNPS6000-CU CPU Cooler - Very quiet fan/heatsink for use with AMD CPU's. Makes less noise than any CPU fan I have used before; you have to put your ear right up to it to hear anything. Windows XP Home - Seems bullet proof , but I hear that a replacement OS known as Longhorn is not far off. I have been able to use SageClient to access the SageTV server from remote pc's and so far the problems have been minimal; not bad for Beta software! As soon as SageTV gets Closed Caption I will be dumping my TiVO/ReplayTV systems. |

The Component Video output of the Xcard goes directly into my TV; not Hi-Def, SDTV. The Digital Audio output is connected to a Kenwood 1090 receiver AC3 input.
