Current Beta Drivers for IVAC 15/16?

I am currently using the 22162 drivers listed on this site. However I notice that on the SHS site he has a cd download listed with 22168 drivers. I also see that Carlgar has referenced these in his signature. So is it worth installing these? Did they actually improve anything? I recently installed a second tuner and have been having TV out image freeze. Prior to installing the second tuner everything was working very well.

You should try the 22170 official drivers from the Hauppauge site instead.

I have not seen any improvement, it seems to cause soft lockup problems I did not have before. I am thinking that these may be because I am still using SageTV 1.4. I am thinking about trying 2.0 again to see if the soft lockups go away.

Well I did download the "official" 22170 drivers from the Hauppauge said and all hell broke loose when I installed them. Everything seemed ok unitl I got to installing the second card and during that process the computer reset and I got a blue screen of death. So now I am restoring the 22162 drivers to get back to almost working condition.

carlgar, I assume you did not sue the drviers from the Hauppague site?

jphhughes, correct because of the virus warning by SHS. I am quite satisfied with the drivers I am currently using. I just wish they were thread safe so I can turn on hyper-threading again.

btw: I backed off the 22168 drivers because in addition to the soft lockups, they seemed to be causing problems for my dial-up internet connection software.

Maybe this is what I am experiencing myself... I had 3 cards, two PVR-250's and one PVR-350, my system was crashing like crazy, so I rebuilded it, I installed drivers from CDROM V1.8A which I do beleive are 22168... I also only used two PVR-250's in my system and it is crashing as hell...

I am starting to beleive it is combination of software (SageTV/Java) and the hardware in some cases. I cannot explain it any other way... I am not getting any support from guys who made those PVR cards, they told me they do not suppot multicard in one system... I am just clueless and stuck after investing so much time and efford and money into this HTPC project ... sucks...

How an I determine if I have IVAC 15 or IVAC 16?

Chris

Go to the SHSand check under PVR Model. You probably have the 16 (no heatsink). I think you should try the drivers listed in my signature area. The primary problem they were intended for was the 15/16 issue but they fixed a lot of other issues.

I asked before but never saw a response, is your CPU hyper-threading?

In general, the PVR-250 type 15 cards had a heatsink, while the type 16 cards do not.

If you can take the cards out, and they do not have heatsinks, check the last digits of the number on the chip to see if its 15 or 16 (just to make sure).

also the device manager sees them differently

the newer ones have (encoder 16) at the end

also you can run prod info from hauppauge and it will tell you the model number
48xxx old model 15
32xxx new model 16

I ran Norton Antivirus and no virus was found. I have re-installed 22162 drivers and things are working as before, which is to say I am still getting freezes on the Tv out but no hard lockups. Again I suspect this has something to do with adding the second tuner card. When the 350 is installed by itself everything works fine no freezes, no channel change problems. when I install the second card the 250 This is when I start to get the tv image freeze.

I have two cable boxes each connected to one tuner card with the same channel lineup. Sage is using the USB-UIRT to control both STB with the Zone control feature of the UIRT. This seems to be working as I can see the cable boxes changing channels indepentently. What does happens from time to time but no every time is that when changing channels the box will respond and change channels but the TV out will freeze but before freezing you will see it start to change the channel and then it freezes. I can put sage to Sleep and then get back to making it work properly again . Some times this takes two to three trys.

So if anyone has any ideas on what might be causing the freezes other then the Tuner cards PLEASE share it with me. Thanks

Do you have a Hyper-threading CPU? I have not seen any freezes since going back to the 22162 drivers.

Current 170 drivers....

I've had many annoying crashes that the 170 build from the SHS site has fixed. I was getting UI lock-ups every day or two and my 350 would not function with the eHome installed. After I did a complete driver re-install with the new ones, it is rock solid w/ 1 eHome working. Only downside is now I can't get the other eHome to function.

So, with the new drivers, I much better off than before.

carlgar no Hyper-treading CPU . I keep coming back to the point that it works rock solid with only the 350 installed. But when I add the second tuner the freezing pops up. Again its no all the time but is reasonably consistant. SO is their some testing or something I should look at that might be causing the problem. Again graping for straws. thanks

EDit one other point when these freezes happend the file being recordered is broken up in multipile files, which I believe you pointed our to me in a previous post.
