Odd outcome to direct where shows record.

Setting Tuner Priority
Editing forced_video_storage_path_prefix

First issue tuner priority didn't work. The higher number should go first.. Right?
4 tuners there settings are:
tuner1=10
tuner2= 9
tuner3= 8
tuner4= 0

Started a recording, tuner3 started the recording??? I expected tuner1 or tuner4. ??

seeker/video_storage=E\:\\TVSHOWS,20000000000,2;F\:\\tvshows,20000000000,2;C\:\\TVSHOWS,128000000000,1;
mmc/encoders/-2123756823/forced_video_storage_path_prefix=F\:\\tvshows

Sagetv service was OFF when I edited the prop files.

Once I can get that fixed I will figure out why the redirect to a particular drive isn't working.

Never mind, my first test failed miserably but regular records that started a little while after I wrote the first post are following the drives/recording priorities.

Wow. Amazing. -Bill

It's been quite a while since I played around with encoder_merit (so maybe the behavior changed at some point), but if I remember correctly "encoder_merit" is a slight misnomer. It really means "lineup merit for this encoder". So if you have 4 encoders sharing the same lineup then encoder_merit will not prioritize one physical encoder over the other. That would explain the behavior you are seeing.

Not sure about that encoder merit mean just that higher merit tuner gets first recording as long as the channel being recorded exists on that tuner.

I realize this is the common understanding. However, it has not been my experience.

Way way back here: https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=16 Narflex said:

"Encoder merit is used when there's multiple lineups with the same channel and it needs to pick which one to record from."

I always took that to mean for all other things being equal (because encoding merit is the last thing considered) encoder_merit does not apply to encoders that use the same lineup.

Here's an example showing this behavior:

One of my devices is Ceton. 5 of it's 6 tuners are configured in Sage.

I changed the encoder_merit to be the following:

Code:
mmc/encoders/1041831540/encoder_merit=10
mmc/encoders/1041831540/video_capture_device_name=DCT-Ceton InfiniTV Ethernet (00-80-8a-42) Tuner 1

mmc/encoders/2067323539/encoder_merit=20
mmc/encoders/2067323539/video_capture_device_name=DCT-Ceton InfiniTV Ethernet (00-80-8a-42) Tuner 2

mmc/encoders/-1202151758/encoder_merit=30
mmc/encoders/-1202151758/video_capture_device_name=DCT-Ceton InfiniTV Ethernet (00-80-8a-42) Tuner 3

mmc/encoders/-176659759/encoder_merit=40
mmc/encoders/-176659759/video_capture_device_name=DCT-Ceton InfiniTV Ethernet (00-80-8a-42) Tuner 4

mmc/encoders/848832240/encoder_merit=50
mmc/encoders/848832240/video_capture_device_name=DCT-Ceton InfiniTV Ethernet (00-80-8a-42) Tuner 5
No other recordings are happening during this test. I started manual recording for 5 different shows at the same time, 1 minute apart. The channels I recorded are available only on the Ceton tuners. All Ceton tuners use the same lineup.

If the tuner was selected based on encoder_merit and higher encoder_merit means that the highest available tuner is used first, I would expect that the tuners would be used in this order:

5, 4, 3, 2, 1

But in my tests, the order is:

1, 5, 3, 2, 4

I've run it multiple times and the order is always the same.

I just looked at the v9 UI which allows you to change the merit (usually I just edit the properties file), and that dialog (see attachment) says:

"Note: All sources for the same capture device will share the same merit priority value."

Which I read as meaning that regardless of what encoder_merit value I set for the tuners on a single Ceton device, they will all be treated as the same merit and it won't guarantee the order that they would be used.

The UI still allows me to set separate values for each of the tuners, so I'm not sure which value is used if they are all different.

I see what you mean now I have always set all tuners on my HDHomeRun device to the same merit never tried setting tuners on 1 device to different merits.

I will what and see if more shows follow the encoder merit like this mornings regularly scheduled shows did. (I guess i could have been a fluke) What I did notice as that when i did an test and just clicked record a a show it did NOT work. So its possible others that were testing had those same results as me, failure.

I have a bunch of things recording all from a single Quad HDHR. It worked as setup in the sources menu. And also recorded to the right hard drives as specified in the properties file.
